“A mix of a way with words, Marshall-stacked guitar tones, and a sophisticated Nashville storytelling fare—that is American multi-instrumentalist David Russell.

Born on July 3, 2000, in Nashville, Tennessee, David immersed himself in a variety of DIY indie, hardcore, and punk bands. Hailing from a long line of musicians, he played in family bands—primarily country music—and collaborated with his sister, Emmy Russell, on songwriting and production. His father was a Black Sabbath fan, and introduced him to classic tracks like “Paranoid” and “War Pigs” when he was six years old. By middle school, he was designing shirts and hosting festivals in his parents' barn. Inspired by live performance videos from bands ranging from KISS to Steve Albini’s passion projects, he began producing music on his parents' laptop.

At 15, David started uploading original songs to SoundCloud, drawing inspiration from bands like Modern Baseball and Weezer. These uploads were playlisted as an annual "Summer Hiatus" compilation, the collection of songs David had written over the given year. No moniker—just self-titled, self-released.

By the age of 17, David released his debut album, It's All for Her. This confessional indie record was performed front-to-back for a year before being re-recorded with his band and then teenage producer Keller Moore, stepping away from the Elliot Smith-style production of the original. Following a series of six subsequent releases, David left high school, his job at the post office, and his hometown.

At 19, he relocated to the East Village, New York City, to fully pursue his music. There, he collaborated with artists like Maybull and later formed a band with friends in Flatbush, Brooklyn. For the last five years, David frequently performs at venues such as the Bitter End, Mercury Lounge, various DIY spaces, sharing the stage with acts like Cab Ellis, Telescreens, and Hipsy Gap. After connecting with Billy Maninno (Oso Oso, Macseal), they produced “Breaking Down & Feeling Low,” with more music on the way. David remains proudly independent, organized, and ambitious.”
