August was the first “serious” composition I ever wrote. I was hungry to prove to the world that I was a “real” musician. Whenever I listen to this composition, I am filled with intense nostalgia. A deep longing for the feelings, the emotions, and the atmosphere of my youth.

This song is very personal to me, as it embodies the idea of finding hope in difficult times. As the title suggests, it's about the light that shines through the darkness and gives us strength to persevere.

I wrote this piece last year and had the pleasure of recording it with my talented band - Karīna Laugale on vocals, Emīls Bogdanovičs on bass, Matīss Žilinskis on piano, and Antons Visockis on drums.

The lyrics were written by my dear friend Hailong Zhang, a talented classical pianist. We met during our studies at Jāzepa Vītola Latvijas Mūzikas akadēmija. We shared many good times and bad times together and he helped me a lot during my studies.

They brought their incredible musicianship to the recording and I am grateful to have them on this journey with me.

From the nostalgic "August" to the empowering "One", and from the introspective "Breath" to the poignant "Last Life in the Universe", each piece I've composed has a story to tell. And "Light Behind The Dark" is no exception.
