I really enjoyed this piece. The bookmarking of the labored breath was a particularly nice touch, as it put me in mind of someone with a breathing apparatus— necessary for the exploration of Pluto. I look forward to your future Disquiet Junto responses!

My Disquiet Junto

I recorded throwing ice cubes into the best crystal glass I own. a long stem glass which is the last of a set of six. It makes a beautiful ringing sound no matter how you hit it. All the sounds are made from the ice and the glass, including the ringing, and my voice.

I used a 32 bit float field recorder that I bought recently to test turning up very small sounds, like the glass ringing. Works well. The sounds are treated with Ableton to vary them (played back on a midi keyboard, then mixed and moved around), and for my voice I used, also for the very first time, a Korg Kaoss Pad 3 that I just acquired.

Took an old piece - is is music? Well, I came to “music” from a reverse angle. I was a spoken word radio producer in the 80’s, then got attracted to audio art, moved to Europe, tried installations, and found myself in the experimental music world. So this piece is from about ten years ago, and has been rejigged by me. I did it simply, using Ableton but not enhancing with synth.  Next time.

his was my contribution for Disquiet Junto Project 0659: Reading the Body.

Was going to interpret the markings on the cello as originally described in the prompt, but ended up taking a different approach. I used an online tool called Image2MIDI. It generated five tracks of 15 bar MIDI notes from the cello back image based on musical parameters I entered on a form. The tool appeared to use the overall light and dark shades of the image for note generation. I then took the MIDI file and imported it into Ableton Live. Instruments were assigned to each track – a mix of built-in and Fors.fm plugins. I made adjustments to the notes and looped them out to about three minutes. A little reverb was the only additional effect used. 

I could see investigating Image2MIDI some more, and maybe using it again as a staring off point for future experiments. I initially wasn't going to take part this week but am glad I did. The assignment turned out to be enjoyable, as well as a good learning experience, so I'm glad I participated. Pattern image by Andrew Ridley via Unsplash.

Secondo incontro con il brano di Marco Lucchi.
Cambio di metodologia: pezzo essenzialmente strumentale, con un continuo contrappunto al fluire del piano di Marco.

Strumentazione:

1) Contrabasso. Con arcata ampia e sostenuta, ideale bordone per la partitura sovrastante.
2) Calimba (molto riverberata) e mellotron. Sono i suoni armonico/percussivi che fanno da contrappunto costante al pianoforte principale.

Ideale allegoria di un passare nel chiaroscuro della luce, nella natura pura e incontaminata.

I made this track by selecting my favorite little recordings from many years - all recorded by me - many of them are my voice, some are animals, tiny snippets harvested from past field recordings, many accidental - then I did a survey of effects in Ableton that I wanted to explore and treated everything, learning about various parameters until I got the atmosphere I wanted - a great practice opportunity. The photo is one I took of a balloon flight, altering the colors.

Disquiet Junto Project 0672: Day Break
The Assignment: Make a handful of sonic alerts for various purposes.

Step 1: You’re going to make alarm sounds. Think about the alarms and alerts — phone, egg timer, microwave, neighborhood church bells, etc. — that currently go off regularly in your life.

Step 2: Make a list of a handful of instances you want to create an alert for, like something urgent and something that’s a gentle reminder, and so forth. Maybe you have a different tone for each morning of the week?

Step 3: Record roughly five (more or less) sonic alerts for the purposes you decided upon in Step 2.

Step 4: Make one track with each of the alerts separated briefly by some silence. When posting the track online, be sure to list the intention behind each alert.

Building upon my previous composition, 'omeostasi' I inverted the sonic landscape of the piece. Notes once robust were rendered delicate, and those once subtle were amplified. 
This sonic inversion was achieved by manipulating amplitude levels within the original score. 
While timbres and effects underwent transformations, the underlying structure remained intact. 
The piece was realized through the synergy of Csound, which handled sound generation, and Python, which orchestrated the note sequence.
