Refresh and spootlight on Absys Digital, where we present fourtrack EP brought by rookies Evocativ. Hailing from chilly areas of Estonia and Finland, Mark and Roman are definetely going to warm our hearts during long winter that is approaching very fast. Starting off with "Lixir", we can easily set our minds in the mood that will last until the final tone of full EP. Intense warmth of melodies, beautiful piano pads, tranquility which is provided by accurately programmed beats move us straight to some blissful place somewhere well above the ground, or perhaps our comfortbable and cosy bedroom. Tracks are kept in the very similar atmosphere, awarding the feeling that isvery hard to drop, and majority of fragile listeners will only regret that this release is only an EP.

Metalheadz rounds off an incredibly successful year with an EP from core label producer Mikal, who also brings some friends along for the ride.  

META013 is a project that shows the versatility of Mikal. His take on the Headz sound includes steam train steppers, halftime dancehall grooves and classic reinforced era jungle. The EP is an expansive project that includes collaborations with Break and Nymfo, from South Country UK across to Holland.

The dancehall and dub parts of Mikal’s armoury are strongly on display here - his contribution to the long lineage of dancehall influenced drum n bass is a confident- take no prisoners attitude,  typical Metalheadz.

The package is broken down as a four track vinyl EP, with an exclusive digital only fifth track. There is also an accompanying video for the lead track. 

The EP is five tracks worth of intent and is the tip of the iceberg for Mikal’s future in terms of sound and presence on the label and we keenly await his next outing.

The latest roller from Need for Mirrors erupts with midnight color. A deep, primal bassline lurches up, taking "Horus" alongside the tattered landscape of some crumbling empty city. Need for Mirrors is joined on the A side by HLZ and Mikal, ensuring that the listener's experience is at times quite dark, even while meaning to feel placid, frozen in motion at the breakdown: something chromatic, a near-piano riff, glissandos into space. This is drum & bass.

Need for Mirrors continues with Mikal on "Solomon," keeping to the same sub-station wrecking standards, starting slowly with slightly shuffled hats and a two-step break before voices shouting overtop of the quaking bottom-end remind us, or perhaps they remind these artists, that everything can be made alright.

Having graced us with so much great music in the past, it might be surprising to find that this is Silent Witness’s first ever solo artist EP on Dispatch Recordings. We proudly present “The Arc Light EP”, featuring four superbly-crafted tracks that confidently cover a broad spectrum of musical bases, styles and sounds at 170bpm and upward.

Instantly recognized by its distinctive sirens the title track “Arc Light” is defined by surging low ends that swarm through with undulating fervor. Marked by mystery but never devoid of musicality, the EP keeps you guessing at every turn and the angelic chants in “Lost” are a testament to this, shrouded in techy gurgles and spiralling bass refractions.

Whilst experimenting with every track, the EP still manages to maintain that signature Silent Witness sound we’ve come to know and love. With fresh, tightly constructed drums, “FMB” offers both subtlety and class, with space for funk to casually seep through and the EP comes to an emphatic close with the vibrant melodies of “Aura” completing the circuit.

Silent Witness - FMB - Dispatch 076 C (CLIP) - OUT NOW

Metalheadz kicks off a very exciting 2014 with a new team of producers for the label. 

Firstly introducing Mako and DLR who are already starting work on their forthcoming combined Metalheadz album project, alongside we have the fledgling talents of Villem and the elder statesmen of the scene Ant TC1 who in his own right has had a hand in a fair share of memorable releases and himself heads up Dispatch Recordings and Metalheadz.

META015 is project that shows a great depth in the talents of the foursome, it’s a beauty and the beast affair, fantastically executed in the great tradition of Metalheadz.
Kicking off with ‘Hungry For Atmosphere’ this stepper is a perfect set opener, heartfelt strings and keys give way to contorted mids and FXs, whilst the familiar vocal is processed into something altogether more sinister. The track clocks at just over 7 minutes and this says everything of the tracks ambitions, not pandering to anything but its own journey.
Next to step into the ring is ‘A Certain Flavour’ the opposite but yet perfectly paired track to go with the A side. Beginning with a very cinematic introduction it unravels into a growling bass led stepper with staccato drums before switching into a two-step drum work out, tailor made for dancefloors and DJs alike.

A release that we are very happy to kick 2014 off with, welcome to the new breed!
