Vaughan is an old school Afrikaans Rock artist that is energetic and creative in his music and live performances.   Although he’s a solo artist, he loves working with bands to create his own vibe live on stage.   Performing live he makes use of a loops machine and guitars to create a unique rock sound, no prerecorded tracks are used.   He believes strongly that a musician must produce all his sound live in real time, no miming.

His music is strongly influenced by Afrikaans artists like, Valiant Swart, Piet Botha, André Swiegers, Theuns Jordaan and also American country rock.   You will hear the sounds of Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straights, Pink Floyd, Mumford & Sons, Eric Clapton, Steve Miller, just to name a few of his influencers.

His music career started at a young age in a minister’s house that loved music.   After 3 years of classical piano lessons he decided to quit, because of his newfound love for the guitar.   A close friend promised him guitar lessons, and he had to cycle 16 km’s to his friends house for his very first lesson, only to find a handwritten chord sheet of the easy simple chords on a guitar.   He showed him what the chords looked like on the guitar and the rest afternoon they fooled around, before he took the long road home on his bicycle.   He was so determined and dedicated that it took him only six months of practice and he was ready to play in his very first church band.

From here on his live progressed as usual.   He got married to his student sweet heart, Marinda and together they have two beautiful daughters.   Today they’re living in Pretoria, where he pursuit his music career.

It wasn’t an easy decision for him; no short cuts were taken and no quick over night success for him.   He never saw himself as a singer, only a mediocre guitarist.   His family and friends always complimented him on his vocal abilities and finally he decided to put it to the test, enrolling into as many singing competitions as possible.   To his amazement he averaged 97% in all his competitions, brought home two gold and four silver medals from the SA Championships of entertainment arts and was elected for the SA team to perform in Los Angeles.

He knows that he can never be the next SA idol, but he understands his market and loves his music.   His goal is clearly fixed on the blues / rock market (for an older generation), writing his own songs, producing songs for his target market.
