With a career stretching back several decades, losing touch with changing tastes is the elephant in the room for many. Not so for Angélis, his versatility and passion for the genre have only served to keep his sound fresh. Since his earliest days in the scene, Amsterdam’s electronic music pioneer Steve Rachmad has created a legion of monikers to cover the variety and broadness of his compositions. Black Scorpion, Tons of Tones, Rachmad Project, Scorp, Parallel 9, Ignacio, Dreg, Sterac Electronics; they all represent a different facet of Rachmad’s music. One of the main creatures living on Planet Rachmad has always been STERAC, a side of Steve’s musical personality that’s not easily described. Let’s say that where other aliases are used for excursions to more dub-, disco-, or houseoriented records, STERAC’s focus has always been on the no-nonsense, darker, and deeper side of techno. The STERAC discography consists of signature cuts, spread out over genre-defining labels such as M-Plant, Tresor, Klockworks, Afterlife, Mote Evolver, Indigo Aera and Delsin. Over the years it’s been reinterpreted, remixed, and reworked by peers such as Ricardo Villalobos, Vince Watson and Marc Romboy. The work rarely fits current trends or pushes through to the absolute top of subjective charts. Rather it simmers, always ready to spark the rise of new generations, parties, and artists’ careers within the musical biotope we all love. His effort and independent attitude have made STERAC a regular on many a stage. From his hometown’s Awakenings, to Berghain in Berlin, Movement festival in Detroit, Fabric London, Loft Barcelona, D-Edge in Sao Paulo, and more.

DifferentSound invites Sterac / Podcast #135

Oliver Rosemann is a DJ and producer from Leipzig, who has been active since the 90’s. During this time, he has made his experience with timeless techno exactly in the time of its creation, which can be seen later in his productions and DJ Sets.

In the Leipzig scene he played numerous live sets in the early 2000s, including at the 1040, one of the legendary clubs of the time. Increasingly, he began to show himself in public not only as a pure live act but also as a track producer. He oriented himself out of the local scene and tried to place his music directly internationally. With the collaboration with MasCon called "dualit" he had first big releases on labels like Earwiggle, CLR or Fith Wall Records and also international gigs e.g. in Antwerp.

But after that his solo project should be in the foreground again. Oliver got his own EP on Sunil Sharpe's label Earwiggle. The "Pointing from the Moon EP" was released, which was the starting signal for numerous following releases. To date, there are close to 180 tracks and remixes, including 3 LPs, released on labels such as MindTrip, MORD Records, Warm Up Recordings, Pole Group, Stockholm LTD and many more.
Another promising collaboration was to follow. Pfirter and Oliver started producing together in 2019 and presented their first joint 4 tracker “Alpha EP” in 2020 on MindTrip Music and it was a huge success. To date, the collaboration of the two includes several releases and B2B DJ Sets and there will be a few more.

Oliver is also present on stage. Whether as a live act or as a DJ, he knows how to create a dark, driving, ecstatic atmosphere on dance floors. He has already proven this in clubs like Tresor Berlin, Distillery, Institut für Zukunft, About Blanc and also in other countries in Europe. Numerous podcasts recorded by him or live cuts from parties, which were released over the years by renowned crews such as "Reclaim Your City" or "Staub", show this.

In 2021 he founded his own record label "Recorded Things", which he now runs together with Sebastian Rothermel. Also, here, his sound, which he produces or DJs, is formative and reflects what kind of techno he stands for. The latest release here is a new collaboration between Oliver and Alexander Kowalski!

"TRASH"

Das Album "TRASH" entstand in 20 Minuten. Wir saßen völlig verblöded auf der Couch, als wir dachten: "Hey, lass einfach alle alten Dinger raushauen." ...Wenn juckts. Das Album beinhaltet 9 unveröffentlichte Demos die eigentlich niemals das Internet erblicken sollte. But here we are. Es repräsentiert auf keinen Fall die Richtung in die ich mich weiter entwickeln möchte, aber es zeigt von einer Zeit wo alles noch roh und ohne Filter was. Es existiert kaum bis kein adäquates Mixing Mixing und es gibt wenig Struktur, aber ab und zu erkennt man eine gute Idee und dafür laden wir so ein "Trash" auch hoch. 

The album 'TRASH' was created in 20 minutes. We were sitting completely dazed on the couch when we thought, 'Hey, let's just throw out all the old stuff.' ...Who cares. The album includes 9 unreleased demos that were never supposed to see the light of day. But here we are. It definitely does not represent the direction in which I want to develop further, but it depicts a time when everything was still raw and unfiltered. There is hardly any adequate mixing, and there's little structure, but now and then you can recognize a good idea, and that's why we uploaded this 'Trash'.
