"I wanted this mix to be equally suitable for raving and for a deep-listening session. It represents how i like to play for the dance-floor : angular, twisted, 3-dimensional and sexy. I included a couple of tracks of mine, a few of them are unreleased yet.
Some others by undeniable legends, some by emerging talented producers.
There’s also a track by Gigi FM, with whom I’ll play B2B at Awakenings... Very much looking forward to that weekend.

From his early releases on the legendary german imprint raster-noton, to his more recent output aimed at the club, Kangding Ray managed to trace a singular trajectory, navigating the unexplored territories between experimental and dance music.
Through his consistency as live performer and DJ, and with a number of critically acclaimed releases under his belt, Kangding Ray showed his ability to keep a genuine artistic approach, while slowly crafting an unique universe, equally focused on emotional response and visceral impact. 
Kangding Ray’s music tests boundaries, evolving constantly in its exploration of texture and rhythms, while talking equally to the body and the mind. From his past as architect, Kangding Ray kept a multidisciplinary approach to art, applying his craft in diverse artistic fields  such as visual arts, film scores, audiovisual installations and dance performances.

Awakenings Podcast S301 - Kangding Ray

Hailing from Dallas, Texas, young DJ and producer Decoder specialises in minimalistic sounds with a sci-fi touch. Decoder’s musical upbringing in which he played the drums and became accustomed to rhythm has paved the way for his musical career. Decoder has already established his space within the scene, with his tracks being played by the likes of legends Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin. His tracks have been released on notable labels such as AMTK+ and Molecular.

Vault Sessions #220 - Decoder

The long running stirrings of Surgeon (Anthony Child) and Regis (Karl O’Connor) under the conjunct British Murder Boys are not for the faint of heart. Their alleged final act came before a Tokyo crowd in 2012, but the goodbye only lasted three years and with their Amsterdam return, a reformulation of their signature industrial sound. The duo, both at their acme with little signs of descent, have together found a hybrid techno that scales high and large, bringing together thumping bass and hissing feedback for a distinctly belligerent and primal club sound. It’s not all obvious, their 2020 cover of Lou Reed’s Real Good Time Together offered a machine-inflected spin on the original, and opened the door for their debut LP Active Agents And House Boys (2024). At the heart is a provocative, sexually-charged and punkish techno that offloads bristling rhythms and defiant energy, one that’s a little more controlled and mathematical in practice. Following on from their show at Bassiani back in November comes this next mix. Bassiani Podcast 250 is an hour-long and live recorded assault: thrashing beats, crazed and bleepy arps, EBM-style shouts, a decadent and rageful call to arms and one of the most important instalments in this long running series. Back-breaking industrial techno from these two heavyweights and originators of the Birmingham sound.

"Sound systems are really what move me." The up-and-coming techno artist talks about the physicality of sound and how psychedelics inform his work in the studio.

What makes a good artist? In this RA Exchange, British DJ and producer Andrew Shobeiri, AKA Rene Wise, reflects on being a relatively new name in the scene and considers the success that ultimately comes with time and experience. "There's never a point where you're done," he says. 

While Shobeiri is only a few years into his career, the up-and-comer already knows how to draw a crowd. He has finely tuned a highly kinetic and hypnotic techno sound that's brought him legions of fans and bookings on the world's top club and festival lineups. He divulges the ingredients that go into a Rene Wise set, including sound sources from genres beyond the club, like salsa, Iranian radif and the strange orchestration of Steve Reich. He also talks about his experience with psychedelics—which helped lay the groundwork for some of his most formative musical experiences—as well as how sound systems have changed the way he perceives and composes tracks for the dance floor. This next guest is part of a new generation of talent coming from Japan and slowly taking over the world. Cutting her teeth on the dancefloors of Tokyo, imus is a significant and perennial player on her local scene. She’s played at Keep Hush, contributed mixes to NTS Radio and delivered her mentally challenging techno to audiences at DJ Nobu’s Future Terror parties. At the end of 2023, she also launched eulb, an event series sitting at the ‘intersection of machine, band and dance that focuses on the aesthetic aspects of electronic and spiritual sounds’. Inspired by techno, bass and all things experimental, her work pulls heavily from her context at the centre of the Japanese sound, but pushes it further and develops something unique to her own experience. Her sets are large format trips into the strange realms of her mind-altering frequencies, sonorous and full-bodied ripples and beats that explore the fringes of dance music in all of its forms.
