"You can get deeply lost in the darkness if you let yourself merge with it and not fight it.” With this statement, Denise Rabe vividly encapsulates her musical philosophy. As this episode of DYSTOPIA exhibits, her sound is less a musical form than a collection of sounds generating a tense, haunting atmosphere. Rabe's methods and ideas show with total clarity how darkness, what our society incorrectly perceives as negative, is in fact an opening onto a radically liberated world of abstract forces. In this episode I seek to define the meaning of darkness in techno and Denise also shares her thoughts with us about Berghain, the role of gender within the techno scene, how her personal philosophy is expressed through her music, as well as the fortuitous synergy between her name and the spirit of her music. Pate Jaar, hailing from Tbilisi, founded DifferentSound in 2017, shaping a musical journey of his own. It sounds like Pate Jaar is a prominent figure in the electronic music scene, particularly in techno. He's not only known as a DJ but also as the founder of DifferentSound Records and Concrete Tbilisi label. Jakarta-born DJ and producer Ecilo has spent over a decade carving out his place in the global techno continuum. Emerging in 2008, his sound draws from the pulse of jazz, soul, and blues; then thrusts it deep into the hypnotic realms of sci-fi soundtracks, dub atmospheres, and percussive density.

With releases on seminal imprints like AXIS, ARTS, Planet Rhythm, and Olympian, Ecilo has become a driving force in Southeast Asia’s techno movement. His debut album Uncovert, released on Jeff Mills’ Axis Records, was a landmark moment, fusing cosmic vision with raw industrial energy.

From residencies at Vault Bali and Kilo Lounge Jakarta to international appearances on stages like DOMMUNE Japan, Ecilo’s sets are heavy, heady, and deeply immersive. His sound is rooted in tradition, but fearless in its evolution; Detroit by spirit, Indonesia by soul.
