A jazzy lullaby. I found this beautiful poem called 'The Pleasant Dark' by Annette Wynne, and stitched it with something I was improvising one morning.  I then immediately felt like having a nap. 

The pleasant dark that comes at night
Is just as friendly as the light,
Dark wraps a curtain over all—
The trees, the houses, far and tall;
The pleasant dark comes down to bless
The world with mother-tenderness.
She folds her children in her arms
And keeps them safe from loud alarms;
The far green hills where children play
Are hidden till the brand-new day.
For hills and eyelids know what's best—
That darkness-time is time for rest.

In my dreams I sometimes dive in the wide ocean or in deep water. Sometimes I find myself surrounded with sharks, sometimes I have to find my way through storms.

I always wake up very agitated after these dreams. Diving in deep water is an emotional adventure I tried to capture in this song.

This tune is my deepest connection to my dad , who recently celebrated his 70th birthday... Whenever my dad, the maestro of jazz, would start playing this, I would melt and give up anything just to be able to play like him one day... one day when I grow up...

I practiced this only for one month, I admit. Because ever since he stopped playing "Moonlight Serenade", I had almost forgotten it... And a month ago, while doing my daily reading of music, I bumped into this piece again. All the memories and gratitude came back and this is my attempt to transfer my dad's birthday into Valentine's Day, and just share this moonlight from our studio...

By the way my dad stopped playing around my current age, and then, 20 years later, while visiting us in Canada, he just played this tune, perfectly in Bill Evans style...
