Kirk Degiorgio's back catalogue and history make for pretty impressive reading. Not only is his own work a perfect example of techno, soul and funk informed electronics but it’s also seen release on some of history’s highest regarded imprints including R&S and Planet E. He also comes from a pretty incredible starting point, having spent time in the burgeoning Detroit techno creative collective at the end of the 80s, where he benefited from pearls of wisdom from Derrick May which inspired him to then move back to the UK, sell everything, buy as many machines as he could and lock himself away with the manuals until he could program and form sounds himself. Another accolade is the work he did with his label, Applied Rhythmic Technology (ART). Seminal in the 90s, Degiorgio used the imprint to release his own productions (including work under his highly regarded As One alias) as well enlisting Photek and Aphex Twin along the way – which is still continuing today. 

His current focus however doesn't look to rest on the laurels of his past achievements, instead it’s specifically focussed on the music being made right now. Which is handy considering that Machine, the club night and imprint he co-runs with another one of UK techno’s pioneers, Ben Sims, calls upon its guests to only play music that is no more than a year old. Last year the pair brought the Machine concept to Room Two and we’re pretty happy about the fact that they’ve got a second takeover planned for Valentine’s night on the 14th of February.

Six years after Die Faser, Cio D'Or (finally!) returns with another full-length. all in all, broken down into three separate, interlinking passages, has a truly interesting way with space and sonic design; cinematic flourishes sweep through glitchy interludes into minimal territory, and back again.

"XLIV for Mike" is one of the more straightforward cuts, but with synthetic effects that sound like Radiophonic Workshop oscillations and a zipper scratching on plastic, it's still a far cry from the conventional, while still carrying enough heft to keep bodies rooted to the 'floor.

Recorded this during a lifetime low, following the loss of my dad. It still seems to hint at some kind of transcendence when I listen to it. The only new track featured on the compilation album 'Electrospective'. Released on Soma Records in March 2011.
Trivia: Produced in Reason & Ableton Live, with some added analogue warmth from my trusty Moog Source for the sustained bass build up.

For the first time, Volte-Face's BleeD releases a Various Artists compilation, featuring friends and close family of the label. Named after Joseph Beuys' concept of 'Social Sculpture', which serves to harness collective potential in an attempt to transform society (in some small way at least!), the release features eight different artists who embody the BleeD sound of the last few years of activity - Volte-Face, Rote (Daniel Avery & Volte-Face), DJ Nobu, Peder Mannerfelt, Opuswerk, Refracted, AWB and BLNDR.

After the Pruitt Igoe E.P, Kangding Ray returns with his third album for raster-noton, pushing further his explorations on the edge of digital and analog sounds. With OR, Kangding Ray continues to blur the borders between experimental and bass music, and brings his signature sound to another level, somewhere at the darkest fringe of club culture.
With the massive metallic beats of « athem », the frightening distorded waves of « Mojave », the elevated groove of « Odd Sympathy », the modulated guitar walls of « Leavaila Scheme », or the low-bitrate Everest of « La Belle », KR creates deep atmospheres, loaded with echoes of collapsing economies, dysfunctional political systems, and corporate alienation.In an abstract manner, OR depicts the desillusions of modern civilizations, while initiating a positive reflection on crisis as a creative state.
OR (« gold » in french), as the only chemical element that seems to keep its value for eternity, refers to the cult of endless consumption and the absurdity of fluctuating currency valuations, while in english, as a logical operator or grammatical conjunction, OR represents the possibility of another choice, an « inclusive disjunction » which suggests that there might be another answer, a different path to follow.
Noticeable inputs have been provided by Ben Frost, who composed a keyboard line for « Or », Rose Tizane Merrill who lend her voice to the anarchist poem « Monsters », and Magne Mostue who wrote the words and sang on « Coracoid Process » as well as the vocal version of the prophetic electronic mantra « Pruitt Igoe ».

From the need to contribute and relieve a little the social and economic problem that is currently being experienced in the country due to the emergency of COVID-19, From a Lost Place has brought together local and international artists who have joined the cause to, through music, try to help the most vulnerable. 100% of the money raised on Bandcamp will be donated in two parts: One for Santa Cruz del Islote, an artificial island located in the San Bernardo archipelago (Colombia) and considered one of the most populated islands in the world, which It sustains itself economically through tourism and now finds itself with a lack of food and medicine supplies. The other part will go to the Fundación Rediseñándonos, located in Bogotá and whose initiative is the reintegration of vulnerable people and street dwellers through weaving and clothing. Right now and due to the current situation, this home needs to stock up on food and raw materials to continue working for those who need it.

A partir de la necesidad de contribuir y aliviar un poco el problema social y económico que se está viviendo actualmente en Colombia debido a la emergencia del COVID-19, From a Lost Place ha reunido artistas locales e internacionales que se han sumado a la causa para, a través de la música, tratar de ayudar a los más vulnerables. El 100% del dinero recaudado en Bandcamp será donado en dos partes: Una para Santa Cruz del Islote, una isla artificial ubicada en el archipiélago de San Bernardo y considerada una de las islas más pobladas del mundo, la cual se sostiene económicamente por el turismo y ahora se encuentra con falta de abastecimiento de comida y medicamentos. La otra parte se destinará a la Fundación Rediseñándonos, ubicada en Bogotá (COL) y que tiene como iniciativa la reinserción de personas vulnerables y habitantes de calle por medio del tejido y la confección. Doctrina Natura - Alienation

Llegamos al número 21 de Isolation Series de la mano de Irazu. Nacido en Madrid, pero viviendo en algún lugar de Europa, su conexión con la música electrónica es solo un símbolo del expresionismo sonoro del autodescubrimiento para tratar de saber quién es.

Irazu define su trabajo como "Un espacio íntimo entre la tensión y la falsa tranquilidad" y nos deja esta reflexión sobre el mix que ha titulado como ‘110’: 

“110 es un número sagrado. La soledad es parte de lo que es.

La energía que representa el número 110 es ilimitada. Tiene una propensión a tratar a las personas de manera intensa.

La profunda resonancia es la vibración de la propia soledad, la base sobre la cual se genera dicha intensidad.

Una persona con el número 110 en su mente tiende a ser consciente de su relación inseparable pero independiente con la soledad.

La soledad es una resonancia de la propia vida, la vibración es la base de la energía representada por el número 110.

Imagina estar en una situación de soledad extrema, con puntos de vista, pensamientos, reflexiones y sentimientos generados por la propia situación. 

Imagina poder reducirlo a un número.

Eso es  el número 110.”
