This piece emerged from a moment of solitude and curiosity. I wasn’t trying to make a track. I was exploring what happens when time slows, when a machine becomes tactile, when the room disappears and only the field of sound remains.
“First Signal” unfolds at approximately 40 BPM—a near-suspended pulse that persists yet moves.
Recorded in a single session with the MicroFreak, the work emphasizes gradual micro-variations within a fixed loop. The stereo field is extended laterally, keeping the center almost silent and inviting a focus on the subtle shifts.
Visually inspired by Cycles (1974) by Jordan Belson & Stephen Beck, where a single sequence is repeated twelve times and each iteration is re-sculpted via Direct Video Synthesizer, this audio composition mirrors that logic: a persistent structure, nuanced change, and sustained attention.
Here there is no melody in the conventional sense, no beat-driven momentum—only an environment, a “space in sound,” a moment of stillness that invites you to enter and listen.
