I beheld thee in the innocent bloom of spring,  
I beheld thee in the stars' eternal ring.

I gazed upon him, and the dawn did break,  
He gazed upon me, and the end did wake.

What eyes hath he cast upon me this day,  
That his glance shall never fade away?

Mine own sight met his, and I did lose my grace,  
I had to leave all, for his embrace.

Thou hast betrayed me, O false one, with thy lies,  
Why does the world itself betray and sigh?

We hold no faith in rituals or prayer,  
But when I beheld thee, God’s name filled the air.

What is life, if it be to live or die,  
To be angered by thee has become my cry.

When thou didst halt, the pulse of life did cease,  
When thou didst move, 'twas as if the end brought peace.

No peace the heart finds, not for a single breath,  
What is a fleeting meeting, if it leads to death?

My life, once wise, now lost in foolish chase,  
Devoted to a heart that hath lost its grace.

What did the eyes and hearts discover, when they met,  
When both sides of me found 'Saajid's' regret?
