"Waves of Love"

I played at the piano again and again with the keyboard ...
Then, after a long time (3 months) I had this tune finished and arranged ...
I was glad when the piano melody to "Waves of Love" was finally finished  ...
Now I could start playing the strings ....
After listening to the song several times, I started to feel the melodies and I played the flutes, repeating until I was satisfied with the result.
After the flutes, the other instruments were added to the piano melody. These included the violins and the cello ...
It was a great pleasure for me to send it to Colin.

Waves of Love - Oliver Papke and Colin Powell

When Oliver first sent me his version of Waves of Love, he said he wanted it to become an EPIC New Age track, with lots of power. I added several harmony parts that add to the melody and then a bass guitar that comes in later to give some more bottom end.
Then, of course, there are those epic drums that Eva and Oliver (and me!) are so fond of! Plus cymbal crashes for extra epic-ness.
So, Oliver got his wish! A New Age Epic, which was also an epic to mix (26 tracks on my iPad!). But it was great fun to add to, mix and master this wonderful piece of music. We hope you like it too.

It's always amazing what you can come up with ...
This track only motivates us to go further with the music and create more musical compositions.

This track was produced to 1) create a piece that could be used to start my new album and 2) because I love the type of Sci-Fi movie theme created by people like John Carpenter.
For this reason is does what it sets out to do, hopefully opens up a new album nicely and darkly in the way I want to give this album a concept and that is about sci-fi movie themes.
I hope you like it and this is just a demo for now, but please have a listen, download and like/fav.

An improvisation on Vangelis' stunning track played on Deckard's Dream with VP-03 string machine and Rhodes backing. No pitch bend wheel used - the bend effect is a combination of the CS-80/DD "Initial Bend" and the Sustain II voice mode.

If you have a DD and are interested in this patch please get in touch, I have included it in my sound bank.

The Blade Runner Blues lead / harmonica patch is one of the most expressive patches Vangelis ever did on the CS-80. Among other things it features sensitive and fine-tuned velocity and aftertouch response, with quite different settings for each of the two synth lines I and II. Since it is not directly derived from the CS-80's preset buttons, as many of his other go-to patches were, and especially because it has so many expressive nuances, it is not a straightforward patch to recreate.

Ausgabe der Schallwende-CD-Reihe für Mitglieder des Schallwende e.V. - "schallplatte" - zum Thema 50 Jahre Mondlandung komponiert: Der Track "Race To The Moon", der den "Wettlauf" zum Mond zwischen den USA und der Sowjetunion musikalisch beschreibt. Schon 1968 erkor das Time-Magazine diese Story zum Top-Thema. Es ist das vierte Mal nach 2012 ("Der Ruf der Eule"), 2013 ("Sunrise Avenues in Santiago de Compostela") und 2015 ("Gewitterregen-Elegie"), dass ein Beitrag von mir von der Schallwende-Jury ausgewählt wurde. Dafür herzlichen Dank!

Especially for the 21st edition of the Schallwende-CD-series for members of the Schallwende eV - "schallplatte" - composed to the topic 50 years moon landing: The track "Race To The Moon", which describes the "race" to the moon between the USA and the Soviet Union. Already in 1968, Time magazine chose this story as its top topic. It is the fourth time since 2012 ("The Call of the Owl"), 2013 ("Sunrise Avenues in Santiago de Compostela") and 2015 ("Thunderstorm Elegy") that a contribution from me has been selected by the Schallwende jury. Thank you very much!
