We are super happy to welcome Sim Fossil (@simfossil)in our podcast series, especially with him releasing his first EP on the label.
Sim Fossil aka Fedor Velyaminov is a DJ, record collector and producer currently based in Paris.
Born in Moscow in 1990, Fedor has always been fascinated by electronic music and started
producing at the age of 13, firstly inspired by famous house and downtempo artists as King Kooba.

Since then, he released several EPs under the alias Cossway on labels such as hedZup, Hatch
Rec, Whyostro, Inter Records, Deepology and many others.
Now living in Paris, where he works as a graphic designer, he has found inspiration in the rich
cultural heritage of the city leading him to launch his new project as Sim Fossil. With his new
moniker, he’s now focusing on more underground fields, experimenting in genres as newbeat,
downtempo, synthpop or balearic ballads.

“The theme of this mix is a certain new age sound and flavor from 80s recordings. I traced this sound through the work of many Japanese artists (hence the Shibas on the cover) and I would say this became the backbone of the mix: music by the legendary Haruomi Hosono, Yuji Toriyama and many more. The vibe is unique and experimental, a new age-y, jazz-rock-y type of deal. I’ve been quite inspired for a long time by the character and creativity of this era; something about the guitar and instrumentation gives it that special touch. Personally, as a producer, I’m a big fan of Yamaha instruments, in particular the DX7, which I’ve come to associate with this time in music. Though Japanese artists are the central thread, I’ve made a kind of fusion of many different things that to me capture this special flavor.”

Alberto Melloni is an italian electro-disco producer, musician, dj and co-owner of Raibano Records. In the early days of his musical career, as guitarist and synths player, he stepped in to the stages through Italy and Europe with many different artists. Today, as dj and producer, Alberto carries on his solo project by producing new music somewhere between disco, italo, afro, techno and rock.

Mix of the Week #516: Sim Fossil - Earthborn

Introducing Alessandro Rebella, affectionately known as Ale Rebi. Hailing from Savona and born in '73, he delves into the vibrant world of funk music, drawing inspiration from blaxploitation cinema and the rich tapestry of Italian cinema from the 60s and 70s. Notably, he remains one of the key figures in the Pollanet Squad, a revered entity for aficionados of 70s Italian detective stories.

His fervor for Italian genre cinema sparked in adolescence, propelling him to amass a collection of soundtracks, particularly from crime films where the pulsating rhythms of "crime funk" artists like Maestro Micalizzi enraptured him. Beyond this, he's an ardent admirer of disco, funk, and pop melodies crafted in Italy during the 70s and 80s. Always on the hunt for rare 45s or albums, he seeks to unearth hidden Italian gems from bygone eras, often shrouded in obscurity.

It was this passion that led him to birth DISCOPONENTE at the dawn of 2022. Through electrifying DJ sets primarily across Liguria, his mission is to illuminate and propagate what he fondly dubs as "New music from the past." Join Alessandro Rebella on a journey through time and sound, as he resurrects forgotten melodies and revitalizes Italy's musical heritage for contemporary audiences.
