Smooth was established by Marco Köller from Wuppertal (Germany) in 2006 to seperate the progressive flavoured output from his other musical projects and to dive a little deeper into sounds and other musical genres. Meanwhile, Smooth has become a project for research in Dubtechno, Deep House, Garage House, UK House, Progressive, Drum&Bass and 2-Step, as these styles have been important influences in the bygone years. Marco Köller started DJing back in 1989 and producing in 1994, and since that time, he moved in many electronic music genres. Beside producing, mastering, sound design and graphic design, he operates the non-commercial audio netlabel CYAN that he founded together with Jaja.

This truly is a great honor, since I´ve been a listener of Dewtone Radio from day one, and still am a big fan. Dustin´s taste for Ambient, Electronica and Deep Dub Tech House at his radio station and same-titled Label still pleases me to this day! I am a big fan. Kerstin Saidykhan a.k.a. Sai has been a music nerd since her youth, influenced by styles like postpunk, dark wave, ska, jungle, DnB, and techno. Two trips to Jamaica in the late ’90s deepened her passion for dancehall and sound system culture, with the heavy basslines of dub and raggamuffin having a lasting impact on her. After the pandemic she established the podcast series “Moments Of Light And Darkness” and just began to release mixes by herself and after a certain time presenting guest mixes, too. The whole development since then was very organic where one thing leads to the other without a certain goal. There are plans to establish a yearly live event. To promote this Sai has built the MLD Compilation via an open call where producers could contribute with a track but stay anonymous. Sai loves to create deep atmospheric mixes around dub techno influenced sounds, combining the classics from earlier days with the current releases, often seasoned with the dub reggae vibes, some broken beats, ambient non beat or other experimental electronic stuff - sometimes darker, sometimes lighter. At the end it's all about moods and feelings from moment to moment what flows into the present time. According to that she calls herself Sai – MLD. MLD is the short form for Moments of Light & Darkness, related to a diverse spectrum in many ways.

Endless Mirage

In ancient Finnish folklore it was known that the forest was a powerful, otherworldly place. When wandering the woods one could sometimes get caught in metsänpeitto, the eerie realm of forest entities. Suddenly all the sounds of the woods would diminish, familiar locations would become unrecognisable and the wanderer would be frozen with confusion and fear. If the wanderer did not know the right spells and rituals to placate the forest entities, he would then be forever lost in metsänpeitto, apart from this world.
