I've been playing music and building instruments for over thirty years, mainly playing instrumental hammered dulcimer and guitar. My roots are in the British folk scene, and I've built bowed psaltries and Appalachian dulcimers as well. But my musical taste is eclectic - drawing on blues, jazz, rock - in the nineties I was part of Catfood - a South West eco-rock band who toured and played festivals including Glastonbury and The Big Green Gathering.

I've been lucky enough to play with many excellent musicians over the years,  Ishan Dal Din, Tom Gloynes and Russell Harris to name a few, and pre-Covid was performing with my brother, the poet Marc Woodward.
 Hoping to gig soon with new material, otherwise I'm solo with my own compositions, a few covers, and a loop pedal. I play restaurants, bars, weddings etc.

I also teach and restore dulcimers. I started with a broken antique East Anglian instrument when I was seventeen. I designed and built my current damped, 3/16/13 bridged instrument in 2007.
For the dulcimer enthusiasts, it has a quarter-sawn 6mm spruce top, arched back, light internal steel frame  and carbon fibre damping bars. I prefer the individual bridges because you can tweak them to fine tune.  I calculated it was under a tonne and a half of stress ...but who isn't?!

I studied film making and painting at art college, and am increasingly getting into short films, and making film music.
