Avenue Red boss Alec Pritchard is back with another carefully chosen selection for the 1210 series (a reference to Technics 1210 turntables), where the DJ plays 12 records that are all 10+ years old. Strictly vinyl only, this sister series serves to unearth some forgotten gems from labels and artists of yesteryear that have been hidden from view, buried by the sands of time... 12 of Alec's personal deep house favourites of all time have been given a new life in this special mix, where the mixing is kept simple, letting the records spread their wings and play out in full to show their true magic.

He has been traversing the electronic music scene for over 20 years, guiding the iconic Dial label and stopping off at stalwarts as varied as Smallville to Giegling, while keeping a close companionship with Japan’s Mule Musiq. The 2022 Earthshine EP under his Sten moniker is his first full length contribution to the Sushitech catalogue and sees his voyaging take on deep techno onboard some added oomph. This month, I’m joined by German producer and live performer Rajko Müller, also known as Isolée. A veteran in electronic music, Rajko has always done things differently. Although perhaps best known for his 90s hit beau mot plage, Rajko’s career has steadily chugged along, with albums like rest and we are monster earning him enduring critical acclaim and a laudatory name amongst his industry peers. Eschewing DJing for live performance and putting out only a few albums in total over the course of his career, Rajko’s path is perhaps untraditional, avoiding the spotlight in favour of the simple pursuit of tenacious, truthful music making. 

In this conversation, Rajko and I discuss his unique trajectory and life outside the music scene, its impact on his creativity, and, in the midst of it all, how his latest effort, Resort Island, has come to life.

Forging new friendships and new experiences is one of the principle pleasures of my passion for underground music.  Around 2 years ago, i was astonished to be contacted by Nesa, inviting me to contribute a mix for Deep House Tehran (DHT) an online magazine that she lovingly curates.  The request opened my ears and closed mind to a community and corner of dance culture i had neither known or expected to exist outside of my preconceptions of electronic music.  A salutary lesson learned and a wonderful opportunity to expand my horizons.

I gained an appreciation of the Tehran scene and of Nesa's own brilliant music which forms half of the next Verdant Recordings release 'Limbic Resonance',  a split shared with Alison Marks.  

A track from that is heard last in this mix from Nesa completing a poetic musical circle.  The EP is available in the coming weeks.
