Soundtrack to a short film in which a man discovers his own dead body.
Composed using only bass guitar sounds processed with 1/4 inch tape reels & a very nice comb filter

Tony's Dead

This is a recording of the launch of the 'Atrophy~Ophilia' CD at the Punters Club, Melbourne in 1997. The quality is a bit dodgy, just a couple of cheap mics at the back of the room, but it has some nice moments.

I love the sound of frogs. These sound strangely like a woman talking over a PA at an airport

This is a recording of the ocean (Discovery Bay, Victoria) from under a rock , so it's very muted & has lots of bass. I love the way these environment recordings sound like a musique concrete piece or a synthesised soundscape. I did a little EQ & limited the peaks a bit, but apart from that it's a raw location recording.

I love the high frequency sound of insects in the bush, it eventually merges together as a regular rhythm and then dissipates, like the insects are moving in & out of phase with each other. This was recorded at Barmah National Park, on the river Murray

Pulsing Insects - Barmah National Park

This is the sound of the surf at Lorne, on the south Victorian Coast, recorded amongst where the sea was coming in. It's a little short, since the sea took me by surprise a few times, so I've edited out the yelling & squealing. The only other treatment I used was some deep low end filters to remove the wind pop & potential harmful frequencies. The bass of the sea is around 60Hz on this recording, whereas my previous post (from Discovery Bay) has a lot of lower subs.

Ocean Under a Rock - Lorne

Recorded under a brick arch railway bridge in Winchcombe, near Cheltenham, England. The resonance of the tunnel is very nice, if you listen carefully at the end you can hear it's still resonating.

This is the soundtrack to a short vampire film I made in 1992. The sounds include a section of a track from Todays Vegies (a band I was part of the time), processed traffic & pretty wild ocarina effected with envelope follower & distortion. The ocarina sound still inspires an emotional reaction from me, it's like a long scream.

Warmth

A short excerpt of some frogs in the Alpine bogs in the ACT. The frogs seem to talk in short narratives like this, several minutes apart. The mid-frequencies are impressive, shatters the air

It consists of 2 layers of field recordings around the Bolte Bridge, composed through the use of phase relationships between & within the recordings

Confluence is designed for headphones, it may not make much sense through speakers due to the phase cancellations in the piece

The recording starts inside the venue, then walks outside, listens to the buzzing of the windows, the droning guitars in a drainpipe, walks out to the street to hear the passing traffic, then back into the foyer
It's a lo-fi sound, using just the built-in mics on a Tascam Dr07
