Vocalist Wayne Snow first appeared on Max Graef’s critically acclaimed debut album from last year followed by his solo EP 'Red Runner' on Tartelet Records.

Recently, Wayne also featured on French producer Darius’ Helios EP, which will be out in April on Roche Music.

For this release, again he teams up with Max Graef and Tartelet. This second EP ‘Rosie’ delivers a fresh badge of rugged soulfulness over off-kilter chords, body shaking basslines & dusty beats as Max does best. Combining Wayne’s falsetto vocals with Max’s beats and production for a record that heralds the sunshine and a spring of cold beers, rowing boats on the Spree and strong sativa.

A1. ‘Interlude’ – Wayne demonstrates his range on this dreamy falsetto introduction while tipping his hat to both past and contemporary vocalists.

A2. ‘Rosie’ – Think Barry White’s strings, and D’Angelo’s sugar. Wayne Snow delivers a car stopping panty dropping wonky hip-hop to 4/4 funk odyssey with this the title track of the record.

A3. ‘Drunk’ - Inspired by drunk-dialing and late night hook ups, Moodyman may sleep with his MPC. Wayne doesn’t. Fuelled by MPC2000 programmed drums, an irresistible deep bass line, off-sounding Rhodes chords and the man himself on vocals.

Remix wise. On the flip, newcomers Nu Guinea, serve up a slow burning jam, paying tribute to early St. Germain work, while German hip-hop producer Hurbert Daviz slows it down for a between-the-sheets hymn high on harmonics.

Our appreciation for 22a and their extended family has steadily spiralled over the last year or so. We've already featured various members of the clan in their own rights:  Jeen Bassa and Al Dobson Jr weaving wax as far back as 2012,  Mo Kolours multiple times and  Henry Wu serving  "Just Negotiate" on a plate for Debuts. It's about time all of those names came together on one setlist, mind - a wish we're churning into reality with  this Friday's 22a label showcase in London.

22a #6 sees Tenderlonious lift the label into album territory for the first time. Led by the label chief on sax, flute and percussion, Ruby Rushton is the result of four friends uniting to ooze out off-the-cuff jazz. Their debut album “Two For Joy” was recorded in 2011, a deeply personal set of compositions fuelled by an admiration for Coltrane, Yusef Lateef and Fela Kuti through to more contemporary demi-gods like Slum Village and  Sa-Ra. The title track - which you can stream uptop - is luxuriously smooth, handmade for Sunday mid-morning couch sessions with the spring sun reaching inwards. 

As with all 22a releases, catch it on vinyl (180g) when it lands on June 29th.

Dr!ve is an interesting proposition. Unearthed by ISM boss Yam Who in London, their original tracks blend boogie, P-funk and synth-pop influences, analogue synths and live instrumentations, and vocals that sit somewhere between Prince and Plantlife. The two original tracks here, "Diamond In The Rough" and "Born Again", are both breezy and attractive, hinting at even greater things to come in future. Wisely, these radio-friendly originals are backed by a couple of solid remixes; a stomping, soulful nu-disco tweak of "Diamond in the Rough" by Yam Who, and a sparkling deep house-goes-nu-disco interpretation of "Born Again" by Autocycle.
