Masyarakat Mentawai memiliki mitigasi yang berbasis kearifan lokal tersendiri, mereka memiliki lagu berjudul Teteu Amusiast Loga (gempa akan datang tupai sudah menjerit).

Lagu tersebut kerap dinyanyikan oleh anak-anak Mentawai saat bermain gasing dari batang bakau atau manggis hutan juga saat bermain petak umpet. Teteu adalah salah satu penguasa bumi. Jika Teteu murka, maka ia akan menggoncangkan bumi hingga mengeluarkan gempa.

Lagu ini tak ubahnya seperti early warning system yang bersifat kultural bagi masyarakat di Kepulauan Mentawai.
