Butch: A DJ’s DJ, A Producer’s Producer, A Electronic Music Chameleon

Some DJs chase trends. Butch sets them. With two decades in electronic music, he moves effortlessly between house, techno, and everything in between. From closing Circoloco at DC-10 to extended sets at Robert Johnson, his sound is always evolving.

Born in Mainz with Turkish roots, Butch hustled his way into the scene, earning multiple Best Producer awards and working with legends like Ricardo Villalobos, Armand van Helden, Cassius, Maceo Plex, and Keinemusik. His releases on Innervisions, Running Back, Defected, Rekids, Diynamic, and Cuttin’ Headz have shaped the underground.

2025 is set to be massive, with his remix of Duck Sauce’s “Falling In Love” already dominating dancefloors and more releases on the way. Butch doesn’t follow rules—he just makes music that moves people.

Born in Bogota, Colombia and raised in Queens, New York. Victor Escobar grew up with many different styles of music: ranging from salsa, live percussion, house, soul and R&B. At the early age of 14 yrs old he started to gain interest in Electronic Music and began following local artists like Danny Tenaglia, Peter Rauhofer, and Victor Calderone. At the same time Victor began listening to labels such as Twisted America,Defected Records, Strictly Rhythm and many more.

In the year 1999 he started to get gigs in small house parties in Queens and Brooklyn. In the year 2000 he moved to Orlando, Florida where he built a good relationship with locals DJs Carlos Mendoza, Elias R and Sander Mendez. Not long after Victor started to play at local venues like Alpha Bar, Zinc Bar, Lux and Suite B Lounge. Nearly 3 years later he started to get interested in music production and purchased his first DAW software -Reason 1.0. From the year 2003 to 2007 he dedicated alot of time to learning the theory behind electronic music and all the things that come along with producing it.

In the year 2009 he collaborated with Elias R ( a well known Colombian House Producer) and produced a single called “Amanecer “ which was released by Le Club Records in Italy (a label owned and managed by Veerus and Maxie) Devine) Amanecer was also later released on various compilations like Le Club Records Miami and Le Club Records Classics. Amanecer would be described as a progressive house track that combined both ethnic vocal elements and tribal percussion, deep breakdowns and powerful build ups. Amanecer, “had a great response” from artists such as Tiesto (Played on the Tiesto Club Life episode 149 Part 2), Dave Seaman, Timo Mass Popof, Erick Morillio Kyau & Albert,Judge Jules and many more. Rising up out of Brazil’s hotbed of formidable talent, Mochakk (AKA Pedro Maia) embodies a level of passion and drive that has placed him in a league of his own. His insatiable hunger for knowledge means he has a broad palette to draw from, channelling his deep well of influences into his vibrant creative output. As anyone who has witnessed him in action will attest, Pedro wears his heart on his sleeve, often expressing his honest love for music in an endearingly physical manner. His skills as a selector have led to bookings at globally renowned clubs, including a residency at the iconic DC-10, while his productions encapsulate his diverse sonic identity. A natural born entertainer, who regularly devours music, history and cultural information by the truckload, Mochakk is a unique artist whose energy and enthusiasm are contagious.

Mochakk’s achievements in 2023 alone demonstrate how influential and respected he has become, with his online fanbase growing to over 3.5 million followers across his socials. He sold out a 5,000-capacity show for leading broadcaster Cercle at the Plaza de España in Seville (the set has almost 4 million views), played over 160 shows in 29 countries, and joined the family at DC-10 as a resident. On that note, Mochakk also released the huge single ‘Jealous’ with Circoloco Records, alongside his killer remixes of Groove Armada’s ‘Superstylin’’ and Diplo’s ‘Express Yourself’. 2023 also saw the launch of his Tricks And Tracks event series, merging his love of skateboarding with electronic music for a unique party. Elsewhere, his Mochakk Calling events have sold out at every worldwide location so far. At the end of 2023 he was named by both Amazon Music and Spotify Mint as Artist to Watch in 2024, wrapping up a hugely successful 2023 with the promise of an even bigger year ahead...

Right place, right time. It's an old cliché, but it's one that's been the definition of Dennis Ferrer's musical career. Just as the dance music world was heading into the world of afro-centric house, Ferrer was there. And then, when it began to embrace the mix of tech and soul, Ferrer was there again, leading the way with his impeccable productions. As Ferrer goes, it seems, so does electronic music. And, as someone who's never content to do the same thing twice, it's clear that he'll be staying on top for years to come.

Ferrer burst back into the consciousness of most dance music heads with the release of "Sandcastles," (Ibadan) his collaboration with Jerome Sydenham in 2003. But, to his credit, Ferrer didn't simply repeat the formula afterwards. He has continued to push a variety of genres all at once. It's clear that Ferrer isn't content to rest on his laurels: he's too busy dreaming up new ways to shock and delight audiences.

In the mid-90’s, Ferrer was crafting techno records as Morph and then had success in the Afro and gospel house scenes with releases via his Sfere label, an imprint he began alongside Kerri Chandler. But it's this past work that gives his new productions such resonance: unlike many of this house peers, Ferrer's techno experience has given him an edge that you can hear in his recent work.

"Son of Raw," (Ibadan) "Church Lady," (Defected) "Underground Is My Home," (King Street Sounds), "Touched the Sky" (King Street Sounds), “Transitions” (King Street Sounds), “P 2 Da J” (Defected),  “Sinfonia Della Notte” (Strictly Rhythm), “Hey Hey” (Objektivity), “Red Room” (Objektivity), “Underground” Nick Curly – Dennis Ferrer Remix (Defected), to name a few, have all been huge dance floor anthems and all show a different side of the Ferrer personality as well as his impressive range as producer and remixer.

Ferrer has brought his ‘anything goes’ approach to his label, Objektivity.  Celebrating its 8th anniversary in 2014, the imprint has thus far focused itself on vocals, featuring often unlikely turns from indie heroes like Ane Brun and Télépopmusik. Low slung and deep, Objektivity is a cutting-edge label in touch with its time, putting a uniquely American spin on the deep house revival that is currently making waves in Europe. Objektivity is a living, breathing thing - one that's set to drop bombs on the dance floor for years to come.

While Ferrer closes out 2013 with “Mind Ur Step” (Defected), “Mind Ur Dub” (Objektivity) and a remix of Coyu - “Salvation” (Noir Music), the best is yet to come. With a deep knowledge of the past and a constant push for the future, Ferrer remains one of the true greats of house music - a leader and innovator whose enjoying the buzz around him but keeping on pushing the limits.
