MONTGOMERY is a new musical about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old proto-Rosa Parks who was arrested in 1955 for violating segregation law.  This is Claudette's first song, a frustrated response to the adults' perceived inaction in the face of Jim Crow.

MONTGOMERY is a musical about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old proto-Rosa Parks who was arrested in 1955 for violating segregation law.  This is the opening number of the show, dramatizing the day-to-day fear, injustice, and violence facing black bus riders (including Claudette’s father, Q.P. Colvin).  The community-at-large copes by teaching themselves, each other, and their children to shrug off cruelty as a means of self-preservation.  If the riders can avoid threatening situations, they will be able to get home to their families and work another day.

MONTGOMERY is a new musical about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old proto-Rosa Parks who was arrested in 1955 for violating segregation law. In this song, civil rights activist Jo Ann Robinson wants to launch a boycott of the Montgomery bus company using Claudette as the poster child, but first she must get former NAACP president E.D. Nixon on board with her plan: he is not sure this is the right time.
