Hailed as “one of Manchester’s most innovative nights” (Manchester Wire), Video Jam is a unique events series which commissions musicians to compose and live perform original accompaniment for short contemporary film.

Each Video Jam event features a wide variety of contemporary short films, with a particular emphasis on experimental and independent moving image by artists at all stages in their career. For each of these films, a different musical act or sound artist is selected to compose an original soundtrack of their own interpretation to be performed as a live accompaniment.

Video Jam is committed to creating accessible, engaging, and site specific events that seek to promote cultural exchange, support the development of pioneering artists, forge new dynamic partnerships and challenge conventional ideologies within the mediums of film and music. Initiated as a grassroots venture in January 2012, the organisation is now an indispensable part of the arts and events culture in the North West, having hosted over 30 unique, site­-specific events within the UK and beyond including commissions from most of the major institutions in Manchester, attracting consistently large audiences of up to and over 1,000.

Isabel Benito Gutiérrez (1981), was born in Santander (Spain), where she studied piano at the Conservatorio Municipal Ataúlfo Argenta with M. Isabel Charlón. In the lasts days of her degree she started to be very interested in harmony and counterpoint. For this reason, she finally decided to move to Barcelona to study theory and composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMuC), where she studied with the masters Luis Naón and Mauricio Sotelo, and attended seminars and master-classes by Lasse Thoresen, Daniel Teruggi, Joan Albert Amargós, José Nieto, Hilda Paredes, Kaija Saariaho, Jose María Sánchez-Verdú and many others.

In 2013 she moved to England where she did her PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) at the University of Huddersfield, working in the City of Liverpool College. She also studied a Masters in Research in Music Composition at the University of Liverpool being mentored by Dr. Ben Hackbarth. Within this course she works along with other Postgraduate students composing music for a silent film, this project is carried out with the collaboration of FACT Liverpool.

Her music is intuitive and artisanal and with a strong and magnetic nature. She creates contemporary music to be attractive not just to musicians, but for people from any professional field, as she thinks art is for everyone, and any person can feel an artistic representation inside. Many of her works have an interdisciplinary sense, mostly combined with painting, as she is very interested in this plastic art, while also in architecture, photography and cinematography.

En los últimos años de sus estudios comienza a estar muy interesada en la armonía y el contrapunto. Por esta razón, finalmente decide trasladarse a Barcelona para estudiar teoría y composición en la Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMuC), donde estudia con los maestros Luis Naón y Mauricio Sotelo, y asiste a seminarios y master-classes impartidos por Lasse Thoresen, Daniel Teruggi, Joan Albert Amargós, José Nieto, Hilda Paredes, Kaija Saariaho y  Jose María Sánchez-Verdú, entre otros.

En 2013 se traslada a Inglaterra donde completa su PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) en la Universidad de Huddersfield, trabajando en el City of Liverpool College. También estudió un Máster de investigación en composición en la Universidad de Liverpool, teniendo como mentor al Dr. Ben Hackbarth. Dentro de este curso trabaja con otros alumnos de cursos de postgraduado en la composición de la música para una película de cine mudo, este proyecto es llevado a cabo con la colaboración de FACT Liverpool.

Su música es intuitiva y artesanal, y con carácter fuerte y magnético. Crea música contemporánea para que sea atractiva no solamente para los músicos, sino también para gente de cualquier ámbito profesional, ya que piensa que el arte es para todos, y que cualquier persona puede tener un sentimiento artístico en su interior. Muchas de sus obras tienen un sentido interdisciplinar, en su mayoría combinadas con la pintura, ya que está muy interesada en este arte plástico, al mismo tiempo que en la arquitectura, la fotografía y el cine.
