Perched on a crossroads, Pin Up Club approaches electronic music with a magpie’s nature. A spread of styles has been picked, plucked and plundered to make ‘Friends Of The Vortex’. The title piece snaps with clean beats as Blade Runner bars build with an energy that can only be described as palpable. Latin percussion and samples get the groove going for ‘Children Of The Void’. Flirting, the tone twirls and turns. Keys are big and full bodied, balanced perfectly by the crack of a snare. ‘Out Of The Unknown’ closes. A slow burning piece brimming with brooding cinematic shapes and strings, a work that shows the colder edge of this dutch duo. Quality through and through.

"I first got introduced to Cliff Lothar through a mutual friend of ours at the time, Lori Napoleon (Antennes). I was surprised by what I heard. He had this feel in his music that seemed to set him apart from just about everybody I had heard at the time. 

From the start of my time over at Submerge with Mike Banks, Mike had always given me demos to check out, because he just didn't have the time and a lot of the stuff that came in sounded very much the same. A lot of it was very well made but to be honest it was rare to find something that stood out.

A few years later, me and Mad Mike were talking about some of the old UR records and one off labels, and I mentioned World Power Alliance. Mike had always wanted to fire the label back up, but there was just never enough time to scout artists outside of Detroit to fill the roster. I said I might have some stuff sitting aside from friends of mine over there that you may like. None of it really seemed to grab him till I popped in Cliffs stuff.

The thing that always made me crazy is that I would have loved to snatch up some of the material and put it out, but we just couldn't find enough variety of artists around it to fill in more records.

This record contains some of those tracks. This guy knows what he's doing and I'm sure you'll hear plenty more from him in the future. This was one of my favorite records years before it's been released, and I hope you all enjoy it too."

Dark Entries is honored to finally present the first ever official vinyl reissue of Space Museum by Solid Space. Solid Space was the British duo of Dan Goldstein (keyboards, vocals) and Matthew 'Maf' Vosburgh (guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals) formed in 1980. Dan and Matthew met at the age of 11 while attending school in north London. In late 1978 at at the age of 14, they formed Exhibit 'A' with Paul “Platypus” and Andrew “Lunchbox” Bynghall. They recorded two EPs in 1979 and 1980, self-released on Irrelevant Wombat Records and appeared on 'The Thing From The Crypt' compilation. After the dissolution of the group, Mathew started taking his guitar over to Dan’s house where he’d play his Casio MT-30 and they would record songs. Eventually a second hand drum machine and Wasp synthesizer were acquired from classified ads in Melody Maker and the Solid Space sound was born. By this time they were just turning 18 and finally found the freedom to make the music they’d had in their heads. 

Over the course of the next two years the band assembled eleven bedroom recordings that would become one of the most cherished DIY obscurities of its kind. Their debut album ‘Space Museum’ was released in 1982 on cassette by In Phaze Records. All of the songs were mixed by label boss Pat Bermingham on 8-track tape at The Shed, in Ilford, which was literally a garden shed. The band's music and lyrics were heavily indebted to science fiction, in particular the 1960s television series Doctor Who. ‘Space Museum’ is an unveiling of atmospheric, minimalist post punk supported by bright melodies. The music combines drum machines and synths with acoustic guitar and toy drums whilst also experimenting with samples between tracks. Lyrics deal with space travel and a general sense of dejection. Representing a bubbling spirit within the underground, they foreshadowed an entire world of independent music which would emerge across the 80’s and well into the 90’s. For this reissue we’ve included two bonus tracks from the band’s archive, “Platform 6” originally released on the B-side of the second single by Exhibit ‘A’,  this song features only Dan and Matthew and is the first Solid Space track ever recorded. “Tutti Lo Sanno” is a cover of In Phaze label mates Marine Girls, though the lyrics have been changed to suit the gender of the new singer. 

Each song has been carefully remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The record is sleeved in a replica of the cassette artwork featuring the Cybermen and Zoe from the Doctor Who episode "The Wheel in Space". Every copy includes a double sided 11x11 insert with lyrics, notes and never before seen photographs of the band taken by Maf as well as a postcard featuring an original advert for the cassette.

Disco Morato and Gegen Mann are Moscow based DJs and sound producers. By playing their music they try to touch the darkest aspects of human emotion expressing an atmosphere of body-control. Apart from DJing they produce music and signed to UK-based NEIN Records. And as a collaboration, they founded imprint “MAXIMA CULPA RECORDS” to develop their specific sound and vision of music. This release is also the result of their collaboration.

There are 10 tracks created with total freedom to experiment with sound.

As we hasten towards the inevitable Waterworld of the next century, Latvian composer, sound artist and lecturer Reinis Semēvics charts our safe passage to dry land with his debut album 'Train Of Thought'. Inspired by the rhythmic movement of water and how its rippled reflections bend our perception, Reinis sculpts an immersive sound collage - a precise mixture of field recordings and self-made sounds which swell and swirl as we bathe in their beauty. 
Bookended by the Baltic's roar at the Bay of Rīga, 'Train Of Thought' drifts from the harbour to the open sea, conveying the restful calm and frenetic power of a body of water throughout. Misty pads and delicate piano conjure lapping waves and blue skies, bubbling sequences ripple up from the deep and cascading melodies fall around hypnotic rhythms, each distinct droplet offering a different feeling and mood. One moment flows into the next, nine rivers pouring into a single ocean of sonic bliss.  
The alias R_R_ is a tribute to his grandfather, the composer Ģederts Ramans, whose influence helped set Reinis' sonic journey in motion. We're very happy he's decided to stop off in the Growing Bin, and we're sure you will be too.
