Born in Fort Apache the Bronx in the old Lincoln Hospital. At the age of 6 yrs old introduced to musical instruments especially guitars and drums. My God Mother at 7yrs old gifted me my first Guitar. Within months I met a neighborhood boy who wanted more than me to play guitar who had a nice drum set so we switched and my drumming began. Growing up in a poor family didn’t leave money for lessons so I watched a lot of Elvis movies and watched what the drummer did and I started to self teach myself. My older brother played the guitar my youngest brother took up the bass and with our neighbor we started our first band. Playing songs like tighten up, Hold on Soppy, and others. At the age of 10 my parents wanted to get us out of the growing gangs in the Bronx so moved us out to Bridgeport, Connecticut. Little did they know it was highly racist area. I met a neighborhood boy who also played drums and took lessons, he was amazed that I never did and was able to play by ear, so we taught each other our different styles. He try to teach me how to read but I was stupid and just wanted to play.
