Improvised, recorded and produced in Berlin by Sebastian Plano and Tom Adams.

2am is an improvisation for two pianos performed using a Yamaha CP80 and a C.Bechstein Mark B grand piano. It was recorded late at night as part of a longer series of piano improvisations by long time friends and collaborators Tom and Sebastian.

"V for Visconti follows more of my baroque obsessions, using saxophones and French horns in registers traditionally assigned to medieval instruments, in Southern Europe baroque music especially. Through this anachronistic use of modern brass instruments and fast repetitive melodic lines, I was longing to create a feeling of both ancient and new, a sort of medieval retro-futurism. The title is Inspired by the beautiful 15th century Visconti-Sforza tarot deck, celebrating the marriage of Maria Bianca Visconti, also known as the "warrior woman", after she led an army of men and successfully defended the city of Cremona from the Venetians." - Angèle David-Guillou

'Damages' is the first taste of new material from CUTS - composer and filmmaker Anthony Tombling Jr.

CUTS is set to release music from his experimental film 'EXIST' for the first time. This April's dual release of EPs 'EXIST 1' & 'EXIST 2' on Village Green will precede a debut album on the label. 

Inspired by a poem by H.P. Lovecraft, 'EXIST' explores night terrors and sleep paralysis. The 40-minute film, described by CUTS as a "existential journey into nowhere" features narration from cult graphic novelist Alan Moore (Watchmen, V For Vendetta, DC Comics, 2000AD). Since the film was premiered at Dark Outside, the unique 24 hour site specific festival in the Galloway Forest Dark Skies Park, in 2015; the music hasn't been made available until now.

"In 2012 I was involved in a car crash and the resulting shock manifested itself in experiencing sleep paralysis for the first time. I was inspired to try and recreate some of those experiences through music and film. It made me view my approach to music in a different way, Exist is a collection of those visions. With all CUTS material I try to take influence from the non-musical, for instance an abandoned space. There is a stillness with places that are in slow decay. I try to imagine what that would sound like? In taking influence from things outside of music I feel my own music becomes less tied to comparison. As a composer working this way has been deeply cathartic."

CUTS' music has been described as "diving-bell-deep growls to sky-scraping, synthetic peals" by Crack Magazine with The 405 noting "clear influences from the powerful build of Mogwai tracks to the My Bloody Valentine-esque use of distortion and distant vocals". On CUTS 'EP1' released by Invada, The Quietus wrote "the buzz and hum of fed-back electronics get underscored by the undoubtedly sinister-feeling creep of industrial percussive mechanisms". 

"EXIST 2' includes the track 'Bunsen Burner', in original and Redux form, which can be heard on the Ivor Novello winning original soundtrack to Alex Garland's sci fi masterpiece Ex Machina, featuring in the film's memorable climactic final scene. The track also featured in the finale of JJ Abrams cult hit US TV show Person Of Interest. 

CUTS has performed at ATP, Simple Things, Drill Festival and played with Fuck Buttons, James Holden, Haxan Cloak and Wire. CUTS debut album is set for release later this year on Village Green.

'Bow Shock' is the second taster from forthcoming album, 'Staccato Signals', following 'Fossils'. 

While the latter encapsulated Chatwin's innovative marriage of strings with his arsenal of analogue and modular synths, 'Bow Shock' is the album's most prominent example of Chatwin's use of brass - folded and buried within his industrial electronic template, pushing the palette of sound further into the composer's own unique hybrid of electronic and acoustic.

Ben Chatwin - Bow Shock

Based in South Queensferry, Scotland - Ben Chatwin is a producer and musician whom has been naturally drawn towards the abstract, the ethereal and the darkness of ambient soundscapes. This month he will release a new album which is titled "Staccato Signals" - a moody deep rooted collection of tracks which casts a hypnotic spell. He has been releasing music for nine years both under his own name and as Talvihorros - each outing has allowed him to expand upon an intricate lineage of musical development and self exploration. Blending elements of the acoustic with electronic he has asserted himself as a singular connoisseur. Happy Monday!

'Time Is Not Your Friend' is the second single taken from CUTS' forthcoming album 'A Gradual Decline'.

Reflecting the current fragility of the planet, the drum sounds on this track were taken from field recordings taken in Iceland:

"I managed to capture the sound of ice cracking from the stress of water and in the distance, ice calving from its glacier. The first half of this track has a darkness to it but then it opens up into something more hopeful. That kind of feels like where we are in terms of climate and its predicted breakdown. It’s not a totally hopeless situation but it looks like it will take everyone pulling in the same direction to halt it. Time is not our friend in that respect." - Anthony Tombling Jr, CUTS
