VDS Podcast Nr.015 w/ Zel Zele

We are super excited that our dear friend, London-based selector and cultural influencer Donna Leake, is here to take over June's guest contribution to VDS Podcast! We are more than happy to have her on board, as she has been a genuine supporter of VDS since our very beginning! Finally, amid the pandemic, she sent this jewel our way and we reminisce about the times when we danced with her at FFKT festival 2019. Her vinyl-only sets are virtuosic assemblages of enigmatic jazz, fusion, psychedelic, spiritual, Afro-disco, and dub, each mix coming from a deep and honest moment of wanting to share her personal joy about each track. She is a well-known NTS and Brilliant Corners resident, has played multiple sets on Boiler Room, and is one of the most knowledgeable minds when it comes to rare records. 6月のVDS PodcastはロンドンからのゲストDonna Leakeとのコラボレーションです。音楽に対する熱い姿勢と確かな審美眼で、クラブやフェスなどはもちろん世界的にも様々な音楽シーンで注目を浴びているDonna。彼女はVDS立ち上げ当初からずっと私たちをサポートしてきてくれてた特別な存在です。そんなとDonnaのコラボレーションはまさに念願の企画！コロナ禍の中Donnaが届けてくれた珠玉のサウンドは生き生きとしていて、2019年のFFKTフェスで一緒に踊ったことを思い出します。今回Donnaが組んでくれたのは、エニグマティックジャズやフュージョン、サイケ デリック、スピリチュアル、アフロディスコ、ダブetc…を行き来きする、レコード・オンリーのセット。どこかエキゾチックなムードでストーリー展開、ジャンルの垣根はなく丁寧に紡がれたmixからは一つ一つのトラックに込めらた思い入れも伝わってくる音楽愛に満ちた作品です。DonnaはNTSのレジデントDJでもあり、Boiler Roomでのライブにも多数出演、あらゆるレコードについて博学なレコードオタクな一面も。現在BrilliantCornersのレジデントDJも務めている、多方面で活躍中のDonna。今回はJAZZを基盤に置きつつも、彼女ならではのユニークな選曲をお楽しみください！

We are delighted to share with you the new VDS Podcast. This contribution comes from the heart of VDS from our founder Rintaro.⁠

Rintaro has founded VDS in 2018 and has shared his musical selections on various streaming radio shows such as Lyl Radio, dublab.de, Netil Radio, and clubs and such as Bonobo, Knock. Based in Tokyo last year he also started organizing a quarterly happening event dedicated to the deep listening experience of music on hi-fi sounds system: The first VDS LISTENING LAB featured artists like Chee Shimizu, Moroi and Yoshio.⁠

His selection for this journey range from classical organ sounds to soulful exotic flutes, from obscure to jazz, from oriental to tropical. Rintaro mixes here some of his favorite new discoveries for a dive into a joyful summer that softly drives off the spirits of negativity that have surrounded us during this winter.⁠

We are excited to present to you the 19th episode of the VDS Podcast series. Dragoș is a Romanian DJ and Radio Host based in London, hosting a monthly show on Netil Radio called JAS.

He is passionate about exploring the emotional bond between records from a wide array of genres and eras.

His mixes straddle the lines between experimental sound and the primordial need for rhythm.

His contribution to the VDS Podcast series was recorded on Christmas Day 2021, at home, with covid, and with no direction. “Just sitting in front of my record shelves, pulling one after another, thinking about just what Rintaro and VDS would want to listen to if they were in my living room with me. It's been a while, but we are excited to share another VDS podcast with you.

Kusht @kusht-music is a Scottish born wanderer who takes musical inspiration from all over the world to create a fusion of psychedelic-groove and down tempo music. He performs with a unique hybrid of live/DJ sets which consist of sampling, guitar, looping and feature the occasional guest performer. His gigs have taken him all over the world, from the magical fields of “Wonderfruit Festival” in Thailand to the airfields of “Fusion Festival” in Germany- where he has woven extended sets for happy people and shaking dancers.

We are happy to have him! His selection for this journey ranges from Cumbia-flavored down tempo electronic to world and tribal sounds, accompanying this summer's dive into the festival season.

We are very excited to present to you this elegantly curated mix of Zouk and other eclectic grooves from the French Island by Sharlie, a multi-disciplinary creative from Paris and Cologne. She has been a vinyl collector for many years, after she was first introduced to Zouk by her father. She then quickly became passionate about world music as well as a wide range of electronic subgenres. Sharlie is a member of the Dublab DE team and presents a monthly show there, as well as a second even more eclectic show with DJ-sets, interviews and live shows under the pseudonym "Menesynt".

We are thrilled to dive into the spring season with a guest mix by the miraculous Brazilian/Danish DJ crew Batukizer.  

Batukizer's sets are composed of hand-picked, infectious dance tunes from a vast collection representing Brazilian sounds from the 60s to the 90s. It's all thanks to their extensive digging trips through the megacities of Rio and São Paulo as well as through South and Northeast Brazil, and the Amazon. They have made a significant contribution to the discovery of amazing and often forgotten Brazilian music through their series of mixtapes and their obsession with finding obscure and rare dance records. Their mixtapes have been shared by The Vinyl Factory, NTS Radio, My Analogue Journal, Discogs, Le mellotron, Gouranga, Kiosk Radio, Music for Dreams, and more.

For VDS, they have handpicked a beautiful atmospheric and spiritual jazzy journey. What better way to ease into the warmer season?

In this second episode we are excited about a first guest mix by @mariawildeis ! Maria Wildeis is a curator, DJ and sound artist. Since her DJ debut in 2018 she performed already at major clubs in Cologne, for Kompakt Records, WIR Schwestern, Ancient Future, or in Clubs in Tbilisi, Georgia, Yerevan, Armenia and Tokyo, JP. She is also hosting a radio show at 674fm (Radio Maria) and she is the is the Head of Exhibitions at SETAREH gallery.

Her VDS mix evolves out of a contagious dark machine-made future, slowly being contaminated by jungle grooves and tribal atmospheres until we arrive in a matrix of wild amazonian joy.

His work with Asian sounds and artists on Tonal Unity focuses on neo-traditional sounds from Korea and beyond.

Finally it’s time again for another podcast from VDS: "Cameron's Stare Through The Moon". London-based Cameron Cullen (aka Calmee @calmecullen ) was one of the first DJs we approached for a VDS guest mix, but he took almost four months to send us this beautiful masterpiece which feels like a long and well fermented wine. He is an avid music digger who produces as one half of techno/house duo Hi & Saberhägen @hi-saberh-gen . Residing in London, after a stint with the Giant Steps sound system, he has found himself at home with the East London audiophile eccentrics.

Cameron: „This mix went through several transformations. I set out to make something genre specific for VDS but the more linear it became the less connected I felt. I wanted the arrangement to take on its own sentience and soundtrack whatever idiosyncratic narrative decided by the listener. The title is a reference to last Christmas, which I spent in Japan. Tripping in the mountains, staring through the moon.

最後にVDSの最新ポッドキャストの時間がやってまいりました。ロンドン在住のCalmeeことCameron CullenはVDSがゲストミックスをお願いした最初のDJの一人でしたが、ようやく４ヶ月を経て熟したワインのような素晴らしいミックスを送ってくれました。彼はテクノ、ハウスをプロデュースするデュオ、Hi & Saberhägenのひとりで、とても貪欲なディガーでもあります。ロンドンに移住してからは、東ロンドンにある期間限定の音響マニアたちが集まるヴェニュー、Giant Stepsで自分のホームグラウンドを見つけたようです。

キャメロン曰く：このミックスは幾つかの区切りを経て構成されている。最初はVDSのためにジャンルに特化したものを作ろうと思ったが、自分が思っていたよりもっと一本の線で結んだようなミックスになった。僕が主観的に感じるサウンドトラックのアレンジと、リスナーが独自に感じれる特異な物語にしたかった。タイトルは去年のクリスマスに過ごした日本で見た山や月から感じたものを引用した。

We are super excited about this musical pearl. This podcast comes straight from Odessa, Ukraine. CJ Plus @c-j-plus is a DJ, sound producer, vinyl digger, one of the first engines of rare grooves, funk and reggae music in Odessa, Ukraine.
There is probably nobody digging so deep into Soviet grooves, funk and jazz as he is. Whether it's Ukrainian, Georgian or Azerbaijani or far East Vladivostok grooves from that time, CJ Plus knows and has these records. VDS Podcast Nr.007 w/ CJ PLUS - "Soviet  Grooves"

End of summer-podcast comes straight from the heart of VDS. Enjoy this ambient ride by yangdead, our dear VDS coworker from Saitama area. 

いわゆる海なし県で育ち、現在も海とは無縁な生活を維持しながらも、勝手な郷愁と憧憬を感じ、オープニングに波の音をセレクトしてしまう超絶ベタな「MIX」。「MIX」と言えば、A5サイズの「Fool's Mate」が90年代に突入し'NU ERA MUSIC'をキーワードに生まれ変わった「MIX」(その後「REMIX」ガロ別冊）を読み返していた今日この頃。「AMBIENT」なんて聞き慣れないジャンルを知ったのもこの雑誌。その記憶と体験を辿るかのように、80s～00sまでのジャパニーズ音源（※所縁のあるモノも含む）やひっそり国内リリースされていたVINYLオンリーでセレクトした、NEW AGEの隣にある'NU AGE AMBIENT'「MIX」74分。
 

Yangdead: „I grew up in a so-called "sea-less prefecture" and though I still have no connection with the sea, I feel nostalgia and longing for the ocean. I selected the sound of waves for the opening of this weird mix.  Speaking of "MIX” generally, I also have been re-reading the A5 size magazine "Fool's Mate" that had its rebirth under the name "MIX" in the 90's when introducing the "NU ERA MUSIC“.  (Later this magazine became known as "REMIX" GARO supplement). This the magazine taught me about the ambient genre back then, which I wasn’t familiar with. My mix is a NU AGE AMBIENT MIX related also to NEW AGE music. It is a 74 minute VINYL-only compilation of Japanese music which  had been quietly released in Japan between the 80s to the 2000s.

This contribution is a back to back of Berlin-based composer and DJ @altinkasetcilik Gözen Atila aka ANADOL and DJ Tayfun Aras @tayfundeform , who is also the owner of Istanbul based vinyl shop "Deform Müzik".


2019 ANADOL became part of Hamburg-based Pingipung-label family and after a prior tape-release released her album Uzun Havalar (2019) as a vinyl. It is a psychedelic synth folk pearl that you should have already in your collection.

This warm and groovy eastern flavored set is a compilation of what both artists hear and research recently, with a few classics they wouldn’t want to miss. 

ANADOL: „All i can say is I am into more progressive stuff these days and Tayfun is more interested in new wave and eastern european music.“

VDS Podcast Nr.010 w/ Anadol & Tayfun Aras

We proudly present you the 11th episode of the VDS podcast. This contribution comes from Tokyo born, London based DJ, producer and musician Koichi Sakai, who is also working for VDS part time as a review writer for selected records.

Since 2008 Koichi Sakai has been the resident DJ for Afrobeat Vibration for 10 years with the former Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80 keyboardist Dele Sosimi. He has released his first album “Wono” from Olindo Records in March 2020 with the Ghanaian master percussionist and singer Afla Sackey.

Besides that Sakai is known for „Afrobuddha“, a project with his fellow DJ and Producer Kay Suzuki. They have released 2 x 12” vinyl singles and broadcasted a number of shows on NTS radio and had an appearance on Boiler Room.

Sakai is widely recognized for his highly developed, unique style of introducing soulful, jazzy and percussive sounds. For VDS he is playing a distinctive and smooth mix of soul, jazz, tribal, world, afrobeat and latin with a little ambient and meditative flavor. Drift away into amazing soundscapes with this sweet mix.

VDS第１１回目のポッドキャストをお届けします。今回は東京出身ロンドン在住のDJ、プロデューサー、ミュージシャンでVDSのレビューライターとしても活動するサカイコーイチのミックスです。

サカイ氏は２００８年からフェラ・クティのエジプト８０でキーボード奏者だったデレ・ソシミと共にイベント"Afrobeat Vibration"を主催し、１０年間レジデントDJを務めました。今年３月にはオリンド・レコードよりガーナのマスターパーカッショニストでシンガーのアフラ・サッキーとコラボしたファーストアルバム"Wono"をリリースしています。

また同じくロンドンで活動するDJ、プロデューサーのKay Suzukiとのプロジェクト”Afrobuddha”としても知られていて、これまでに２枚の１２インチシングルをリリース、NTSラジオやBoiler Roomにも出演しています。

@airtothebear / Airbear, aka Aaron Choe, is a DJ, filmmaker, and producer originally from the San Francisco Bay Area who has been based in Seoul, South Korea for over 12 years now. His mixes have been featured on Red Light Radio, NTS radio, and Boiler Room. More recently he has been a very frequent guest at Soul Community Radio.

His VDS mix is a sweet time capsule giving testimony to Airbear’s 20 years of record collecting, which started in the corner of prog rock, punk and indie, and then evolved through trading with friends to a focus on soul, r&b, rocksteady and psych when Airbear was super into the mod scene.

Listening Lab kickoff event!
オーディオファイルシーンの探求のために立ち上げたイベント「Listening Lab」。ゲストと共に、オーディオファイルの解釈を多角的に紐解いていきます。
初回のラボは、ハイエンドオーディオを取りそろえる「ダイナミックオーディオ」からストリーミング配信でお届けします。
DJ、プロデューサーとしての活動やライターとして「Obscure Sound」の著者としても知られるChee Shimizu氏、八王子の高純度音響Bar「SHeLTeR」 にて開催されているパーティー“Sci-Fi” のレジデントを務める、音響シーンのスペシャリストMoroi氏、そのSHeLTeRオーナーとして長年サウンドシステム手がけるYoshio氏の三名をゲストDJに迎え、今回のイベントをオーガナイズするRintaroの4名が参加する今回のラボ。
日曜日午後15時（ヨーロッパタイムは早朝6時）から、VDS YouTube Channelからお楽しみいただけます。
日曜日を彩る音楽をお楽しみください。

Listening Lab is an event series dedicated to depths of acoustic experiences.
Together with our guests, we will share beautiful handpicked selections of music and sound art in the tradition of audiophile listening sessions.
Listening Lab kickoff event will be streamed from Dynamic Audio, a leading provider of high-end audio equipment.
For the kickoff event, we will be joined by DJ and producer Chee Shimizu and writer, Moroi, a resident of the "Sci-Fi" party at SHeLTeR, as well as the long-time owner of SHeLTeR, Yoshio, who has been the creative head behind the SHeLTeR's sound system for many years.
Last but not least VDS organizer, Rintaro, will join the guests.
The Listening Lab will be streaming live on VDS YouTube Channel on Sunday at 3pm (6am in Europe GMT).

2021 is here and we are excited to announce our second year of the VDS podcasts! In 2020 we collaborated with amazing @thespacetomato for the design of all our podcasts. 

In 2021 we want to introduce another wonderful artist @lauranot aka Laura Lot, whose collages will accompany the VDS podcasts this year: And as if that was not enough she will also be our first VDS guest mix-contribution in 2021.

@lauranot is an artist, dj, and web radio host, exploring the notion and idea of collage in all her artistic and musical creations. She hosts and curates two monthly radio shows: (x)=musik on Lyl Radio and Sounds Unsaid on dublab.de. She also curates a series of experimental concerts since 2019 at Arkaoda Berlin. Her sets are the space in which hybrid sonic materials, entwined in hidden bonds, gather into an idiosyncratic narration.

For Vinyl Delivery Service, Laura Not blends some of her all time favourites with new sonic discoveries to embark us on a "motionless voyage". Even if the current times force us into immobility, the winds of sound can still transport us to distant lands without the need to move.



2021年、VDSポッドキャストも2年目突入しました。コラージュアーティストSPACE TOMATO（@thespacetomato）がデザインしたMIXのビジュアルを、2021年はアーティストLaura Lot（@laura__lot）にバトンタッチ。さらに、今年最初のポッドキャストのゲストDJとしても参加します。

アーティスト、DJ、webラジオのレジデントなど数々の肩書を持つLaura Lot。彼女は自身の作品を通して概念と発想を探求したアーティストです。彼女は(x)=musik（Lyl Radio）、Sounds Unsaid（dublab.de）でレジデントを務めおり、2019年よりArkaoda Berlinでの“experimental concerts”シリーズも開催している。彼女のセットが生み出す空間では、ハイブリッドな音響素材が複雑に絡み合った独特のナレーションが構築される。

Laura NotがVDSのために厳選したセレクトと、新たに発見した音をブレンドし、「motionless voyage」へ誘う。移動が困難な昨今の情勢でも、彼女の音の風に乗って、遠く離れた地へと連れて行ってくれるだろう。
