Continuing to explore their brand new sound and hot on the heels of recent releases “Prism” and “Dusk”, the Austrian duo are back with yet another taste of their bold new direction, this time in the form of “Silence” and “Tribe”.

“Silence”, in stark contrast of its name, opens on a frantic note, enticing the listener with its unusually complex introduction that is as engaging as it is hypnotic. Frenzied yet displaying masterful control, Dossa & Locuzzed create an immersive atmosphere right from the start that is at time euphoric and hazy, while others dark and mysterious. Reminiscent of Austria’s other most beloved duo, there must certainly be something in the air as the quality of these tunes is second to none. Experimental, cinematic, and completely mesmerizing, Dossa & Locuzzed have certainly proven they’re a force to be reckoned with, and “Silence” is only the half of it.

The flipside of the single, “Tribe”, is a much more visceral tune, as the name might suggest. Embodying mystical tribal energy and a somewhat ominous intro, Dossa & Locuzzed set a foreboding scene full of mystery and intrigue. Of course, the drop is much more reminiscent of classic Dossa & Locuzzed, set to decimate dancefloors with every sinister note. Heavy yet completely creative, “Tribe” is drum & bass like you haven’t heard before, and a strong indicator of the type of tracks to expect from this new direction.

A staple in the Viper house, Dossa & Locuzzed have long been experimenting with new takes on drum & bass, and they’re certainly at the top of their game with these latest offerings. Keep an eye on Dossa & Locuzzed as you can be sure to expect the unexpected from them in 2021.

2022 sees the mighty Viper Recordings turn 18 and to celebrate this mammoth milestone, label head honcho Futurebound has painstakingly picked one release from each year and created the ‘18 Years of Viper’ compilation. Over the last 18 years, Viper has signed some of the biggest artists in drum and bass including Sigma, Camo & Krooked, and Koven to name a few, and each and every artist included on this tracklist is held in the highest esteem amongst critics, peers, and fans alike. Just one peek at the label’s discography and it’s plain to see how challenging it’s been to pick just one track per year from its rich and varied story.

Starting back in 2005, the album opens with label boss Futurebound and his production partner Matrix with their stone-cold classic ‘American Beauty’. With its haunting sample paired with future-proofed twisting synths and high energy drums, the track can and still does easily tear down any dance today. Moving further through time and further through the album, also featured are ShockOne’s ‘True Believer’, DC Breaks’ ‘Babylon’ and Fred V & Grafix’s ‘Just A Thought’ with Reija Lee before The Prototype’s unbelievable track ‘Pale Bue Dot’ marks the midpoint, a release that dominated the scene at its time with its ever-present forward-moving chug wrapped in sci-fi swaths and hollow-sounding hits and highs.

Picks from more recent years include InsideInfo & Miss Trouble’s iconic ‘Metamorphosis’, Cyantific & Benji’s ‘Colour in The Shadows’ and Jaguar Skillz & Mind Vortex’s ‘Riot Squad 2’. The album finishes in the present day with up and comer Jack Mirror & Champion’s ‘Oculus’, a track which showcases and cements the exceptional standards that are promised when a release is marked with that infamous twisted snake - the energy and excitement of a party banger, effortlessly combined with the integrity and grit of authentic drum and bass, and, of course, masterfully produced.

Here’s to the next 18 years, but for now, enjoy 18 Years of Viper Recordings.

North Base have collaborated once again with Chords for an epic, vibrant slammer, although it’s this time through imprint Viper Recordings. Featuring the stepping bass rhythms of Chords, and the driving energy which has become a characteristic of North Base’s, ‘Paradigm’ is your entree, with Ewan Sim also lending his vocals into the mix to create the perfect single to draw festival season to a close.

North Base have made their presence felt both within their hometown of Manchester, as well as further afield, meanwhile London based Chords has been a resounding figure underneath the RAM Records stamp. Likewise, the renowned Russian Dima Pulsar is just as identifiable, and with North Base presents the jumping bassline and resounding horns of ‘Jagged Edge’. Together they merge their eclectic styles and present their first selection together with Viper Recordings, a label which has spent eighteen years in the game, held strong by figurehead Futurebound.
