Throughout the endless expanses of the savannah and the depths of the jungle alike can be heard a set of bellowing sounds that seem to shake the very earth beneath the feet of all the creatures who perceive them. The provenance of these sounds stretches back millennia, originating within a world frozen, shunned by its guiding star, and plunged into an age of ice and snow. Here strode a species of proud beasts of towering stature, their wollen bodies stretching upwards into the heavens as our own ancestors stepped gingerly across the permafrost in their gargantuan shadow. Careful not to provoke their ire and find themselves impaled upon one of the creature’s great ivory tusks, our people listened in awe as these great giants spoke, their thunderous voices echoing within the crisp air of that frozen era.

In the ages since, the relationship between our two species has changed. Our people have grown, and the descendants of the giants have found themselves smaller, standing in fear and awe of the technological progress that we have made. Our own species is now capable of speaking in an approximation of their tongue, replicating it not with our bodies but instead synthesizing it with our technology. Yet still, it is that when the great trunks of these once-mammoth beings speak in the tones that they have preserved for ages, even the most cynical amongst us do stand in awe of the sonic force that nature has created, listening intently to the booming call of the ELEPHANT’S LANGUAGE.

TEDDY KILLERZ return to EATBRAIN with their latest EP, ELEPHANT’S LANGUAGE, drawing a direct comparison between the resonant weight of their basslines and the powerful presence of some of the world’s most awe-inspiring creatures as they lead the EATBRAIN horde on a stampede across the EP’s 4 track span.

Insomniax is a collaboration of two producers, Renzo (Damien Fellows) and Freshold (Oliver Millin) hailing from the South West, UK. Renzo and Freshold have both been devoted to making dance music since the early rave days of the 90s.

After getting their tunes into the hands of Viper Recordings boss Futurebound, the duo were signed to the label in 2014 and made their debut on the prestigious Headroom EP series with the track 'Digital Murder'. Following their Viper debut, they released two tracks 'Can't Resist' and 'Over Again VIP' which were featured on Viper's Drum & Bass Summer Slammers 2014 album, along with an exclusive DJ mix by Insomniax. The duo then went on to work with Viper Recordings artists, Six Blade, to produce 'Contact' which was released on Viper's 10 year anniversary album, 'Decade'.

Now fresh off the back of their latest track 'Lunar Dub' which was featured on Viper's Drum & Bass Annual 2016 album, Insomniax come with their debut single on Viper VIP with 'Uridium / Longest Night'.

Mob Tactics - Tweakers (feat. Ryme Tyme) [Friction BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra]

The Serial Killaz release schedule shows no sign of slowing down and with this latest release from Northampton’s very own Furniss, it’s totally full steam ahead. ‘The Questions’ EP is a rammed jammed affair of 6 heavyweight drum and bass tracks that take reference from the likes of ‘Raw Dogs’ relick, ‘Enta Da Dragon’ and many more flavours from that golden era of jump up.

The title track of the EP sets the pace firmly with a ton of clever samples that create a sense of apprehension before killer slices of drone bass cuts in and out of Furniss’ well polished snares. It’s a clever take on the traditional use of dubbed vocals which works incredibly well.

‘Here We Go Again’ is a fine combination of influences from the Joker Records era and up to date drum programming. The subtle introduction of additional elements provide a constant platform of switches and is testament to the fact that jump up isn’t just a case of blatant copy and pasting.

Moody vibes a run with ‘The General’, so much so that it’s one of those tunes that would easily fit into a beat em up video game boss intro. Furniss has taken elements of vocal samples, film scores and wonky drum programming to create a real darkside head nodder and with the addition of a proper sublow bassline, it’s certainly one to check.

A slight switch next (as expected from anything release via Serial Killaz) by way of ‘Lord A Mercy’ and this is where things really tie into the brand. Combining a single fire vocal sample and trailing bass that really holds the weight tightly in place.

‘Babylon’ is a monster, a REAL monster of a tune. Trailblazing bass from first to last drop, it’s a wonder Furniss managed to get such high impact from digital production. This is low end that you not only hear, but feel.

Finishing things off with ‘This Technique’. A murky stepper of the highest proportion which doesn’t shut the door on what Furniss has to over. Expect much more to come in 2018.

This whole EP is something of a masterpiece and will no doubt appeal to both old and new drum and bass heads alike. References in abundance from the mid 90’s, this is not only an education but a pure dancefloor destroyer for festivals and small back rooms alike.

Everyone keeps secrets, everyone lies, and most even steal when the situation abides. Sins like these, small as they are, are an integral part of the human condition. I should know. It’s my job to investigate these things after all. I look past the lies, peer into the secrets and see the sins of all who come under my gaze, scrutinizing them from the impunity of my position and doling out the requisite punishments appropriately. It’s a fortunate position that I find myself in, for otherwise I would be counted well within the ranks of those whom I investigate.

My sins arise in the oddest of places, seeping through the walls I place around them. I take every effort to keep them controlled, locked up tightly with the key thrown away. But there is another essence inside me, one that must sometimes come out to play. Its hunger is ravenous and fed only by violence, and it drives me to madness within a crimson haze. Rising unpredictably, it bursts from its cage with ferocity as it takes control of my mind. Under its influence I am twisted & torn, a terrifying beast of malice and rage. Those around me are forfeit whether friend or foe, for the beast knows no such distinctions when it overtakes me. I wake from such moments with faint memories clouded still by that red mist, only to find the appalling truth surrounding me at every term. The word now spreads of a monstrous man, who roams the streets slaying with reckless abandon. Its this man I now track, the task of my job, but what they do not know is that the MONSTER INSIDE was me all along.

SMOOTH (also one part of TELEKINESIS) makes his solo EATBRAIN debut with the MONSTER INSIDE EP featuring four fiendish tracks in his signature style. ROLY-POLY opens the EP with a devious rolling bassline interspersed with powerful horn blasts and boisterous vocal shots. RIDE OUT features the vocal tones of MC COPPA for a quickly accelerating tune that peaks with the metallic pulsations of its bassline and rapid fire percussion in a devastating flurry. MONSTER INSIDE darkens the tone of its predecessor, with its sinister pads providing the backing for a grinding bassline that slithers through the track’s low end, whilst DEVILS HEAD amplifies this atmosphere, maintaining its sinister elements while pushing them into overdrive for a furious finale to the EP. With the MONSTER INSIDE EP, SMOOTH lands his unique sound on EATBRAIN with a devious work sure to resonate with the EATBRAIN horde.
