The Story of MIDIport

My track for The Story of MIDIport! This is actually based on a much older sketch from late 2020. Throughout the first half of the track you can hear chopped up waves sounds. This was in the original sketch, and I was inspired by Nokia's Feather alert which I heard for the first time back then, which also uses that effect.

Fast forward to 2024, and I've started the MIDIport project. After some pondering, I eventually decide to take that older sketch, adapt it to Nokia's large bank and build upon the composition further. The 11/8 section is actually reworked from a sketch I had previously written for this project. As for the composition itself, it's like jazzy R&B with some influences from 70s electronica and IDM. I hope you enjoy it!

Working with Beatnik Editor + loopMIDI is a pain though. :(

Metamorphosis (The Story of MIDIport)

Paraphrased notes from the release:
"I started this track around 2024, when this project started, and I decided I'd use my Alesis S4 plus for it, for one because I enjoy the sounds it has, and for two because I don't see nearly enough people using it [...] I will say the S4 plus is better served when used alongside other synths, but surprisingly was very usable on its own - the lack of any real effects when used in a multi-timbral set up like this is a shame, but it served this track in this case. [...] I struggled to continue it for a while, and was also pretty busy with moving, work, life etc., but I managed to get it done in the end even if it's a bit shorter. It'd probably be a good demo track."

I've been watching a lot of what I would say is space themed horror/thriller movies (Event Horizon, Alien, Constellation, etc.), and I really feel like that helped me tap into the feeling I wanted to give. While the theme of this isn't spaced theme, I wanted to give the idea/presence that this city is being visited in quite a bit far future where maybe we have technology to detect things such as human life or something similar. Either way, the town is gone, there's no one left.
