Hi  I'm Tony Walsh - Longfella, a Manchester (UK) based poet, writer and artist in education.  In 2011 I was website poet-in-residence for the world renowned Glastonbury Festival from where my work featured on BBC1, BBCRadio2, BBC6Music and in the rock magazine Q. I have been invited to perform everywhere from The British Library to The Palace of Science and Culture in Warsaw, Poland for The British Council.   From the Royal Shakespeare Company 50th anniversary celebrations to festivals, prisons, schools, colleges, universities, conferences and on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral for OccupyLSX. I am a poet, radio presenter and Dj
I am proud to have played a part in innovating, spoken word and open mic
nights in Manchester over the last 20 years. 
In 1999 I was a founding member of Speakeasy - a collective of poets,
singers Dj’s and dancers.  This evolved into an award-winning event where
I sculpted my vocal craft. 
I have collaborated on projects with AHRC, Coventry, Birmingham and
Manchester University.  And been a contributor to both Wordsmith and
Young Identity poetry education organisation’s.

In 1999 worked with Tracey Zengeni, Conrad Nduna, Tapiwa Mbofana and Eugene Munemo as the Group Mosi'oa'Tunya. we did one album Musatize which did quite well and we were invited by BMG Africa in South Africa to do a project with them. We i.e myself Tracey and Tapiwa were the only ones out of the group that ended up being at BMG Africa in April 2000. We soon broke up and i had my first album with Eugene Munemo as Da'Bros we recorded songs like Uchanditsvaga, Maoko Mudenga that made waves on then Radio3 in 2002. Eugene had to relocate to Cape Town later that year and i stayed in Zimbabwe and worked on My Solo Album. My first single off Ndiwe Muroyi the album , Moyo Wangu ft MarcBlaze and CReal was recorded end of 2003 and my  album was released 2004. Hit songs from the album were Shamiso, Ndiwe Muroyi, Mazuva Angu ft Munesti, U R All ft MarcBlaze. Amai Na Baba. In this same year 2004, I featured on the number hit Single Mazirudo by EXQ of which i co-wrote the song.

Digital media and arts connecting with race, migration and global justice.

virtual migrants connects and engages artists with digital media, and organises projects that add new aesthetics and perspectives to themes of race, migration and globalisation.  virtual migrants create, exhibit and distribute artworks that incorporate digital media techniques that can be installed in galleries, public spaces or community venues.

Over the years we have produced interactive media art, film and music such as the “Terminal Frontiers” exhibition that has been shown in galleries across the UK and abroad, we have collaborated with UK-based artists and communities at all levels and geographies, have published educational resources about refuge and immigration, have created a series of performance works entitled “Passenger”, and have produced a major publication “Exhale” as a DVD-CD-booklet box set covering five years of our productions. We are currently working on issues around race, refugees, and climate justice as well as other linkages.

virtual migrants association was founded in 1998 to bring together a range of artists, particularly those working in visual, music, performance and writing, to collaborate on moving image and new media projects. Its critical purpose is to add new aesthetics, artistic responses and perspectives to themes of race, migration and globalisation; to cross boundaries between artists and non-artists, including with theorists, activists and communities; to draw attention to expressions of migrants whose existence is held in question; and to artistically explore and respond to the causes of racialised political issues which continually make headline news.
