Having always felt a profound love for music and the outdoors, Katahdin is the manifestation of a lifelong pursuit to become more connected with the Earth and its inhabitants by means of artistic expression.

Through exploration of psychedelic frequencies, Katahdin utilizes their fascination with intricate sound design to create sonic journeys charged with the intention of connecting to our roots in nature and the cosmos, as well as the inherent human desire to dance - all while acknowledging the duality that exists between darkness & light in our universe.

BeatPete & Simiah - Vinyl Session - Part # 36 - MPC Special # 2 - AUDIO

This is the second installment of a little experiment I like to do from time to time. I call it the "Mother's Mashup" series which consists of songs that curiously go together in very uncanny ways. Most of the time a pitch drop here and a speed adjustment there will be all it takes to show that we are all singing the same song. ;)

This little collection of music from other artists that has inspired me recently and If you enjoy any of it, please buy it from the artists.

I begin with Jim James' first track on his solo release called "State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U)" and mix that with "Dye" off Tycho's latest album "Awake" which is a blast to drive to btw.

Next we have Tor's "Glass and Stone" from his album "Drum Therapy" mixed with James Blake's "Retrograde". No bedroom is complete without James, take my word for it. 

Then we move into a song off my favorite album of 2012, "When Can" by producers Kettel and Secede. Yes, Kettel made it on my last mashup too. The song is "Ringvanes" and is exactly what I'm all about, mystery forest music. This track is complemented with the beat wizardry of Shigeto with his song "Detroit part 1".

The we take a trip back a decade to whom i consider an unsung electronic hero: Cornelius. This japanese producer is incredible and was very influential to me back in the day. He appears here with his awesome watery guitar track "Drop" mixed with one of the coolest hooks I've heard in a while by Ninja Tune's Matrixxman. The song is called "Enter Me"

Finally we get to an awesome energetic track by Machinedrum called "aeolia" mixed with "85-bit" by who could be the greatest unknown producer around: Woob. "85-bit" is off his album "Repurpose" is a musical journey everyone should take at some point. To me, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever.   

Hopefully this is just in time for your long summer drives...

Our Whack Lack series is about artists creating their own battlewax record; with tunes designed to work in their own right, as well as giving scratch DJs and vocalists some new material to work with. The battlewax concept is to keep it simple yet effective, focusing on the right hook with the right beat and nothing more. Denni sat in her dingy basement connecting up her new toys. She’d been building her record collection for years now, but had never thought about digging through it to build her own tracks. She’d managed to acquire an old sampler and drum machine and had selected a perfect sample - a short section of piano from the intro of an unlabelled jazz record. She dropped the needle on the record and recorded a few seconds in to the dusty machine, cutting it across her keyboard. Firing up a drum loop from earlier she jammed her new found vibe over the top. She sunk back in to her chair and grinned with satisfaction, she probably wouldn’t be seeing anybody for a couple of weeks...

Exclusive Mix 006: Katahdin

2020 has been a wicked intense year for me, as I am sure it has been for many of you. Originally, I had envisioned playing my first festival set and releasing music of my own by this time in the year. I also had a few streams lined up where I had planned on debuting originals, but life has a funny way of happening. Despite the ebbs and flows, 2020 has provided me with more opportunities to grow, both as an individual and as an artist, than I ever could have imagined being possible. Throughout this year, I've been juggling finishing up my senior year of college and working towards making music that I truly identify with, and while this has deemed challenging, it has only reinforced the ways I look forward to applying my knowledge & skills when I complete my degree.

Within my free time, I’ve been really tapping into the cathartic and soothing properties of music. For me, this has meant rediscovering the music that helped me through dark periods in my life, and then drawing upon those sources of inspiration in my own art. Something about the raw emotionality of hearing harsh vocals over melodies that give you goosebumps has always really spoken to me as much of life seems to be different manifestations of that type of bittersweet juxtaposition. With this set, I explore this concept in its various forms - ranging from lush, mesmerizing glitch-hop to the darker sides of deep dubstep & IDM (including some original music from yours truly). 

This is as much an expression of the feelings I have been encountering this year as it is an attempt at making sense of them. I hope that this set is as therapeutic for those that experience it as it was for me to put it together. Thanks for all your continued support, especially if you read this far!
