Charming guitar led melodies strung out over blissful poetic lyrics and dreamy synths, ‘Utopia’ is the embodiment of its definition. A captivating blend of pop magic, hatched in a dream and painted in vivid colour, it creates devotion to its musical heart. For the first time on this planet Dial owner LAWRENCE shows up on an excursion to his beloved PAMPA imprint. The double feature "Kurama" presents two deepy enchanting anthems, a timeless vision of love. After touring around the globe with his new label mate DJ KOZE since ages, having the most successful release in Dial history with Kosi's Efdemin remix, sharing music with each other like crackbrained, it is not a big surprise for LAWRENCE to occur with two of his best pieces on PAMPA Records.

Well known for his releases on Mule Electronic, Ghostly International, Styrax and his own imprints Smallville, Dial and Laid, it was his first Mix CD on Cocoon Recordings "Timeless" which made Lawrence put some cats among the pigeons. With the new PAMPA again he has proved that the holy temple of deepness has to invite some flawy hypnotists once in a while to get clouded and shaken.

The number 09 is dedicated to two most famous experiences in Japan: The Kurama Mountain in Kyoto, one of the most amazing places on earth, and Oolong High, one of the most amazing drinks on earth- cold Oolong Tea on the rocks with a zip of japanese Shochu liquor. After KOZE and LAWRENCE had another few of these beverages again they started dreaming of this wonderful release.

Aus release more music than pretty much any other label on earth, which is great if you, like us here at THUMP, are really into club-ready house music that comes in as many flavours as those new fizzy drink machines you get at places like Five Guys. You know the ones we mean; the contraptions that let you rot your teeth in an amazing array of ways. The modern world is brilliant! 

Their latest 12" sees imprint-owner Will Saul working alongside long term label favourite Komon on the fantastically lithe "Harmonise," a rollocking roller that's more suited to greenhouses than warehouses. 

The B-side sees a pair of big, big remixes. The first comes from Juju & Jordash who take things down a slightly more acidic path, leading us to imagine what exactly would happen if one was to feed a venus fly trap a tab or seven of good, strong acid? Presumably very little, really, but don't EVER deny yourself that kind of flight of fantasy. Plants on drugs...imagine!

Moving swiftly on, the other remix comes from one of the classiest men on the circuit—Mr. Nick Höppner. As you'd expect from a man whose productions and DJ sets redefine the idea of "chic, sleek, European house and techno," he's turned in a reworking so effortlessly cool that repeated exposure has the potential to freeze you to your own sofa. We reckon it's worth the risk.

Hi there, this is the already third installment of the Familiar Faces anthology. For those who missed the first two: all the contributors to this fine selection of tunes are whether label residents who already provided their fair share to its backcatalogue or friends and affiliates, the Riotvan family hooked up with in one way or another (pun intended, by the way. Looking at you, New Hook). The connecting link being a certain like-mindedness in mentality and sonic expression, once again shaping this compilation up to the utmost current status update of what is going on in the Riotvan world.

And for a kick-off there's even some sort of premiere ushering things in with Reznik & Mikesh's opening tune Calumet. Both dudes are far from being strangers to the label, but teaming up and handing in this ferocious Acid stronghold of a tune, after they introduced themselves just recently with a Telepopmusik-remix, puts themself out there as a force to be reckoned with.     

Then there's Llewellyn, Riotvan mainstay and one of the focal artists when it comes to NeoDisco done the smart way. His new track Falling Apart definitely is no exception to the rule - delightful arpeggios, peculiar vocal-parts and one hell of a catchy synth-hook, engaging the time warp right back to the 80's.
It's no big secret that Jennifer Touch has a certain knack for that era, too. Her Hollow Flake gives us a foretaste of her debut album that will be out in April on Fat Cat Records and checks the listener in on another cruise through bleak emotive waters, building on a stomach punching beat and rough acidlines, graced by her sometimes distant, sometimes heartwarming chant.

Mexican friends Zombies In Miami have been playing on Riotvan nights already and now they leave their mark within the release records as well with Soleil, a soulful peaktime gem full of gloomy deepness.

Then there is the Zombie's compatriot Paulor with a hyper-organic sounding Letter To Futura that's shaped out of e-guitar and bass, Postpunk-emulating drums and percussion and an even Krautrock-reminiscing, trippy jam-aesthetic.

Speaking of Postpunk, closing things off are New Hook with their haunting and forceful O T - a cold sounding, yet fiercely intoned social criticism with unmistakable nods towards Malaria or Die Tödliche Doris, yet presented with an urgency that sets them apart from any formal retro-self-sufficiency.

Every mystical journey eventually comes to a fork in the road. The seeker of life’s destiny has two options: remain satisfied with whatever level of consciousness he has already attained, or push forward into ever-new domains of promise and possibility. 2014 sees dance music’s best-known spiritual pilgrims, the Visionquest trio of Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss, and Shaun Reeves, bravely embarking upon that wondrous journey. Each member of this celebrated DJing and production team contributes a distinct yet interlocking vision that together forms a seamless, organic whole. Just think of Crosson’s enthusiastic shuffle, Lee’s soulful stare, Shaun’s soft touch. Everything they craft has the same unmistakable flair: slow-burning, shape-shifting, expansive techno and house marked by compositional elegance and unabashed pop hooks.

Although long-time partner and co-conspirator Seth Troxler has stepped aside to pursue other projects, 2013 was the biggest year ever for the four. Inspired by the passing of the Mayan calendar, the group embarked upon Visionquest 13, 13 dates where the boys not only played together the whole night, but curated a true multimedia experience. From London to Buenos Aires, from the American hinterland to the Chilean wilderness, Visionquest 13 was a Freudian trip into the deepest recesses of the Detroit rave unconscious, what Ibiza Voice described as a “collective expedition into the depths of your soul”—but with a sophisticated, modern twist.

Their accomplishments are well-known and too many to list. For starters: a critically acclaimed 2011 Fabric mix; year-defining hit remixes for artists as diverse as Kiki, Wareika, Tracey Thorn, and David Lynch; showcases and dates in the biggest clubs and festivals around the world; and the creation of a now iconic-label that’s played host to dancefloor weaponry from the likes of Benoit & Sergio, Life & Death, Dinky, and Laura Jones—all this while each member maintained significant individual production and DJ careers. But, by definition, no journey dwells in the past. So in 2014 they launched Visionquest Special Editions, a limited-release, vinyl only label. Evoking the experimental sounds of the European techno avant-garde that first inspired the boys back in Detroit, the debut release, remixes of Montreal songwriter Quilla, features a stunning collaboration between Shaun and long-time hero Ricardo Villalobos. With Visionquest Special Editions we see the group at home at a breezy, gentle afterparty, not just igniting the club. As Visionquest winds around the corner into their bright future, they remain open and excited for what lies ahead.
