We have reached the half century release mark on Motek Music and what better way of celebrating it than with the very talented Philipp Gonzales. He has brought us two track EP 'The Long Shot'. Deep and grooving these two tracks are perfect for getting into your own dance floor zone. Title track 'The Long Shot' is the more driving of the two, low and punchy with constant rolling beats driven by the hats and wood block. Focal points are given to the track with subtle builds and drops where clever arrangement choices have big impact and finally is topped off with a spoken work element. The second production in this release is 'Traveller In The Fog', slower in feel with a more tech style, the track is controlled by the syncopated bass lines and the interplay with the synth stabs. Again an evolving arrangement provides tension and release throughout creating the excitement within the music.
Remixing on this release it is fantastic to welcome back Barber to Motek, and from Moldova for his first remix on the label, Andrey Djackonda.
Barber has applied his magic to 'The Long Shot' and moved it from the deep and grooving to the fuller techno end. Darker synth pads and thumping bass and kick give the track its definition and clever use of the original vocal adds a strong rhythmical element.
Putting his take on 'Traveller In The Fog' Andrey Djackonda has covered his remix in serious funk. Skippy beats sections over a bouncing bass line finished with clavichord stabs can't help but get the body moving.

Dylan Griffin and Chad B are well renowned for their collective talents - Dylan’s reputation as a top notch DJ and Chad’s skills behind a mixing desk make up a potent combination. Steve Bug clearly recognises this, and had invited the pair to feature on his Sublease Music imprint - an outlet for deeper sounds. 

'Aperitif' also features, moody, minor chord sounds, adding to a groove that instantly gets under your skin. Dylan and Chad’s skill for creating slinky dancefloor moments is in full bloom here.

Following his beautiful ‘Detroit Sunrise’ EP on the label last year, the inimitable Sascha Dive returns to Bondage Music once again for another deep frequency encounter.

The safe word is bass as Sascha picks up where he left us with two ‘Dub Chronicles’ tracks on the previous release. Now comes the third; a lavish, unhurried exploration ‘Dub Chronicles 3’ lights the fire with hazy, hypnotic charm and a spoken word well known to those familiar with the foundations.

What follows is a trip that grows in intensity and emotions. ‘Cornerstone’ is a beautiful 11pm track; fleet of foot in the kick department and arms aloft in the vibe department. Total elevation. ‘Ancient Tribal Drums’, meanwhile, takes us much deeper into the night. That rolling conga line will tie you up just the way Bondage likes it while the dubby echoes provide sense-tingling relief… Before the finale takes us to even dreamier heights. Living up to its name, ‘It’s A Groove’ brings the elements of the whole EP together; the dubby hypnosis, the warm, driving beats and that unique sense that you’re not quite tied into any reality while Sascha plays. Every mystical journey eventually comes to a fork in the road. The seeker of life’s destiny has two options: remain satisfied with whatever level of consciousness he has already attained, or push forward into ever-new domains of promise and possibility. 2014 sees dance music’s best-known spiritual pilgrims, the Visionquest trio of Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss, and Shaun Reeves, bravely embarking upon that wondrous journey. Each member of this celebrated DJing and production team contributes a distinct yet interlocking vision that together forms a seamless, organic whole. Just think of Crosson’s enthusiastic shuffle, Lee’s soulful stare, Shaun’s soft touch. Everything they craft has the same unmistakable flair: slow-burning, shape-shifting, expansive techno and house marked by compositional elegance and unabashed pop hooks.

Although long-time partner and co-conspirator Seth Troxler has stepped aside to pursue other projects, 2013 was the biggest year ever for the four. Inspired by the passing of the Mayan calendar, the group embarked upon Visionquest 13, 13 dates where the boys not only played together the whole night, but curated a true multimedia experience. From London to Buenos Aires, from the American hinterland to the Chilean wilderness, Visionquest 13 was a Freudian trip into the deepest recesses of the Detroit rave unconscious, what Ibiza Voice described as a “collective expedition into the depths of your soul”—but with a sophisticated, modern twist.

Their accomplishments are well-known and too many to list. For starters: a critically acclaimed 2011 Fabric mix; year-defining hit remixes for artists as diverse as Kiki, Wareika, Tracey Thorn, and David Lynch; showcases and dates in the biggest clubs and festivals around the world; and the creation of a now iconic-label that’s played host to dancefloor weaponry from the likes of Benoit & Sergio, Life & Death, Dinky, and Laura Jones—all this while each member maintained significant individual production and DJ careers. But, by definition, no journey dwells in the past. So in 2014 they launched Visionquest Special Editions, a limited-release, vinyl only label. Evoking the experimental sounds of the European techno avant-garde that first inspired the boys back in Detroit, the debut release, remixes of Montreal songwriter Quilla, features a stunning collaboration between Shaun and long-time hero Ricardo Villalobos. With Visionquest Special Editions we see the group at home at a breezy, gentle afterparty, not just igniting the club. As Visionquest winds around the corner into their bright future, they remain open and excited for what lies ahead.
