Before you lies a vision of a distant realm, one carpeted in ruddy-toned grasses that stretch endlessly into the distance, and marked by massive mycelial growths that shoot their spore-filled silhouettes skywards to incredible heights. The vision you see is bisected by a crystalline river that flows with a water most pure, the single familiar element that flows amidst this alien landscape. From the fringes of the fungal towers, reptilian beasts spread their leathery wings and glide down to the surface to snatch gigantic insects whose brilliant carapaces shimmer blue-green in the light of the planet’s vibrant sun. Amidst this ochre savanna lay a number of boulders strewn carelessly across its surface by ancient natural forces that now lay dormant, the rocky terrain a reminder of the glacial facade that this land once bore.

There is a distinct mystery inherent in this mushroomed realm, presenting a visage of nature so foreign from your own and yet still reminiscent of so many places you know. You long to roam amidst its sandy grasses, to follow the river that flows from its center to locations unknown, to see the flying lizards glide gently above your head. The portal lies open before you - will you step through and enter the world that the coiled tail of the Vision Serpent so tantalizingly presents?

DAVID PHOENIX delivers the debut release for VISION SERPENT with an EP that shares the label’s name, delivering two solo tracks and a pair of remixes to accompany them provided by likeminded psytech artists Breger and Kaufmann. With this initial entry into the label’s catalog, VISION SERPENT has opened the portal to the first of many alien worlds, and invites listeners to indulge in the sounds that emanate from within.

An autumnal vision appears before you, ensconced in a golden aura that ripples at its edges. The sides of a deep canyon corral your view along a single pathway that leads to a range of distant mountains, its slopes barren, brown, and bespeckled by a strange grasslike cilium that sways gently despite the lack of evident wind.  This undulating organism only becomes more prevalent in the foreground, where its yellow coloration mimics that of the fallen leaves of your homeworld. Here to be found are no rotting remains upon which for this fungus to feast, and yet even in its widespread prevalence it is dwarfed in size by the gargantuan decomposers that neighbor it, with stalks that stretch to spread their spores wide beneath the blanket of the clouded sky.

There is a familiarity to this vision that the great serpent presents, reminiscent for you of journeys past within a world of cerulean hue. Perhaps this locale can be found upon the same spatial body, a neighbor or far-flung echo of that other mycelial realm? One thing stands as certain - knowledge occult is promised to those with the intellect and constitution necessary to brave the serpent’s trials. The portal lies open before you - shall you enter this strangely stagnant realm?

Upon stepping across their thresholds, one finds themselves instantaneously & inexorably arrived at their destination, having crossed the boundaries of place, space, and time with an unsettling ease. Their very existence seemingly exceeds the enmeshing rule of the divine throughout the universe, and yet such divinities as the VISION SERPENT itself grant these gateways as a boon to their followers, allowing and even encouraging them to travel the vast expanses of their creation. Could there even be a limit to their destinations?

Such thoughts race through your mind as you stand at the precipice of another such portal, the visage of the vision serpent looming above in the simmering shadows cast by the gateway’s luminescent edges. The vision before you this time is murkier, cast in aberrant hues and eerily reminiscent of a locale past, as though only a memory. As the portal lies open before you, you wonder where it is that you have truly been traveling. Does this portal lead to a physical realm? Or shall you soon traverse such GREAT DISTANCES as exist within the planes of existence themselves?
