Before you lies a vision of a distant realm, one carpeted in ruddy-toned grasses that stretch endlessly into the distance, and marked by massive mycelial growths that shoot their spore-filled silhouettes skywards to incredible heights. The vision you see is bisected by a crystalline river that flows with a water most pure, the single familiar element that flows amidst this alien landscape. From the fringes of the fungal towers, reptilian beasts spread their leathery wings and glide down to the surface to snatch gigantic insects whose brilliant carapaces shimmer blue-green in the light of the planet’s vibrant sun. Amidst this ochre savanna lay a number of boulders strewn carelessly across its surface by ancient natural forces that now lay dormant, the rocky terrain a reminder of the glacial facade that this land once bore.

There is a distinct mystery inherent in this mushroomed realm, presenting a visage of nature so foreign from your own and yet still reminiscent of so many places you know. You long to roam amidst its sandy grasses, to follow the river that flows from its center to locations unknown, to see the flying lizards glide gently above your head. The portal lies open before you - will you step through and enter the world that the coiled tail of the Vision Serpent so tantalizingly presents?

DAVID PHOENIX delivers the debut release for VISION SERPENT with an EP that shares the label’s name, delivering two solo tracks and a pair of remixes to accompany them provided by likeminded psytech artists Breger and Kaufmann. With this initial entry into the label’s catalog, VISION SERPENT has opened the portal to the first of many alien worlds, and invites listeners to indulge in the sounds that emanate from within.

Swirling within the coiled serpent's tail stands a portal portraying a shimmering expanse of sun-scorched savannah. Seemingly devoid of animate life, only a scant few acacia trees provide shelter for any would-be traveler beneath the heat of the blood-red star that shines above. In the vision before you, even the very ground seems to be scarred by the searing temperature that emanates from the mouth of the portal. The land within is barren, pockmarked as the skin of one who has been touched by roaring flame. At one time, perhaps, some water did flow here, but the remnants of its course are covered in a glassy filament that is baked into the sand below. 

This exsanguinated artery of the land stands before you as the sole path through this hostile world that the Vision Serpent presents. Oft is it said amongst questing adventurers that the harshest of landscapes hold the greatest of treasures, the secrets that may have brought them to ruin or the knowledge capable of restoring them to their former glory. The portal lies open before you - will you accept the Serpent’s searing trial and venture forth into the world of the blood-red sun?

Following in quick succession to their debut release, VISION SERPENT now presents GEORGI Z’s “BAD INFLUENCE EP” as the second locale within the label’s interdimensional survey of myriad sonic lands. Within the EP, GEORGI Z provides a tripartite trail of tracks to lead listeners on their journey, beginning with the brooding atmosphere of the titular “Bad Influence” and progressing “Into the Past” along the divergent timelines of GEORGI Z’s original track and an accompanying remix by VISION SERPENT founder DAVID PHOENIX.

The steel-clad spires of a glistening metropolis shift into focus before your eyes as the portal before you unveils a vision of a civilization victorious. Borne are you now not unto a mystical realm dominated or destroyed by nature but one that is demonstrative of the full potential of intelligent lifeforms quite similar to your own species’ specifics. Vast luminescent locales lie in wait in the foreground before you as a network of titanium-alloyed transit structures take travelers to and from amidst the endless urban expanse. Above it all, a familiar dusk settles slowly upon the sky-scraping structures, promising novel delights in the new life that night brings to such a city as this.

What sorts of creatures might the denizens of this dense urban landscape be? What delicacies, delights, and dalliances might be found amidst its night markets and beneath the pervasive pinkish-amber glow of its glittering lights? The portal lies open before you - will you accept the Serpent’s invitation into this iridescent world of alien splendors?

VISION SERPENT opens the portal to their third release with a sleek single from LAMPE entitled FIGURE IT OUT as the German artist contributes his otherworldly sounds to the label’s expanding catalog. The single’s neon-tinged A-side delivers a skillfully concocted shot of shimmering techno, whilst its companion B-side “Watch Out” wraps a shadowy set of synthetic textures around a driving bassline sure to manipulate the movements of every ear that it touches.

The original ‘Bless This Acid House’ album was released in May 2023 and was overflowing with extraordinary collaborations with original house music icons such as Marshall Jefferson, Robert Owens, Irvine Welsh and the late Sleazy D. Made with a variety of music-making analogue hardware machines, it was designed to transport you back to a time when house music was fresh, raw and underground.

A year on, this new release ‘Bless This Acid House Remixed’ does exactly what it says on the tin. Thirteen on-point, contemporary remixes of the original album tracks reworked by some of the most respected names in electronic music including Bushwacka, ITHURTZ, Jonny Aux, Black Octopus, Jon Carter, Serge Santiago, Redraft Memories & Chip-E, Transparent Sound and more. 

First out of the blocks, legendary acid house original Bushwacka takes the languid ‘Wish’ with Robert Owens and injects it with wiggly acid nitroglycerine. This dynamite cut is followed by Quinn from Paranoid London stepping up in his Jonny Aux guise for a punchy, squiggly, breakbeat-fuelled overhaul of ‘Take You There’ featuring the late Sleezy D. Jack Said What mainstay Serge Santiago takes ‘This Is Acid’ in an almost Italo direction; Transparent Sound morphs ‘Go Bang’ into a dark electro beast with a killer bassline undertow; and ITHURTZ twists timeless classic ‘One Day’ into a skippy, rubberised tech-house missive. 

Further, Jon Carter twists ‘Acid House Guys’ featuring Irvine Welsh through a glitchy techno mangle, while jackin’ house Chicago original Chip-E, alongside his mate Redraft Memories, obtain the parts to ‘Jack Said What’ — the track that gave rise to the label’s name — and take it further into the outer space technosphere. And there’s plenty more goodness in addition to these top-notch remixes, too. Shot through with an acid house sensibility, there’s sure to be a remix for a wide range of people here with any sort of interest in the culture.

Steve Mac is the artist behind the ‘Bless This Acid House’ album. A UK house music heavy-hitter, he has been a pillar of the international house community virtually from the beginning. The DJ/producer is also the label boss of Jack Said What Records in partnership with infamous Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh. With over 25 years’ experience, Steve is respected and revered for his analogue production style. Mac has also released tracks for labels such as Nervous, MoS, Cr2, Toolroom, Saved, Underwater and Ovum, and produced a number of artist albums for other people as well.
