Thank you for uploading this set. I was at this event early but missed most of your set that night. It was a great time dancing before that evening with our mutual friends and chatting.

For as long as there has been footwork, there has been Jana Rush (@jaru-1). The Chicago-born pioneer started on the decks aged just 10 and was producing not long after. Since the mid-nineties, she has put out music that endlessly innovates within the juke and footwork framework. Her coiled rhythms and stripped-back drums are the vehicles for emotions that range from anguish to empowerment. Last year she dropped her second album Painful Enlightenment on Planet Mu and it was a frank listen that spoke of her struggles with depression.

This week's mix is a controlled but chaotic fusion of all elements of footwork from the silkier and more melodic side to heavy jungle rhythms and on through electro-tinged bangers. It is brilliantly hyperactive as it ducks and dives through so many emotions, and it finds Jana packing so much in over the course of an hour that it feels like you have been locked in all night long.

About the mix: El house es una música que me acompaña y me hace bailar desde muy chico, cómo olvidar la primera vez que escuché French Kiss en una fiesta de un colegio de monjas a los 12 años, junto con Eurodance, Italo y clásicos Disco y Hi-NRG.
Luego un poco más grande siempre fue la música que aportaba sensualidad a las fiestas donde contrastaba con el techno, trance y drum n’ bass de la época.
Como dice uno de los más grandes hits, el house es un sentimiento, que nos une en la pista y nos hace viajar, soñar y sudar.

VITIGRRL (Hannah Viti) is a proud Chicagoan who believes in the transformative power of music to help us feel at home in our bodies. She started DJing in 2018, but her passion for music selection began years earlier at her college radio station. Viti currently holds residencies at the award-winning queer dance party Slo’ Mo and is the founder of I-94, a mix/event series that champions and uplifts the next generation of DJs and artists from Chicago and Detroit. And this summer, she will launch her new residency.

Viti creates genre-bending soundscapes full of passion and power, blending classic Chicago House, Detroit Techno, UK Garage, Funk, Soul, Disco, R&B, and more. From Chicago’s Smartbar to Millennium Park and clubs across the country, including Spot Lite in Detroit and Jupiter Disco in Brooklyn, Viti’s energetic sets ignite dance floors everywhere.

Along with Lady D and Lori Branch, VITIGRRL established The Good Girls, a dynamic DJ collective combining four decades of musical expertise. They empower women, LGBTQ+, and POC artists with their mission to create inclusive spaces, promoting intentionality and equity through music, one dance floor at a time.

VITIGRRL is a sound artist, podcast producer, and sonic historian whose work is deeply influenced by the malleable power of sound. In 2020, she graduated from Northwestern University's Sound Arts & Industries Masters program, where she honed her craft, weaving meaning, archival treasures, and musicality into her practice.
