Although this morning’s news may be weighing heavy, at least it’s Friday right? We’ll soon be drowning our sorrows (maybe at the last two dates of the Family Portrait tour) and we’ve even got a brand new Hand Cut Record Club single to present to you.

With previous releases on Captured Tracks, Faux Discx and Marshall Teller, we’re delighted to welcome Dignan Porch to our doorstep with their fantastic new single ‘Out of the Picture’. The track storms out of the traps with building drums and a delightfully melodic keyboard line which drifts in and out throughout. The track is a much more pop, affair compared to some of the cuts on their excellent recent album. In fact It almost brings to mind a lo-fi New Order as girl/boy vocals harmonise the refrain “If you wait too long to tell her, you’ll be left out of the picture”.

As with previous Hand Cut singles, Out of the Piture will be released on lathe cut 7″ and limited to 25 copies. The 25 copies will be available from our shop at 1pm today! As always it’s worth pointing out that because these records are handcut, they will sound slightly lofi!

Some Kind Of Masterpiece

Very good things come to those who wait: after a eight year sabbatical from the music industry, Martin Rossiter returns with a lyrically raw set of torch songs to mend and break hearts. Martin was, of course, the front man of the 90s most misunderstood and yet beloved groups, Gene. Erroneously dubbed a Brit-Pop band, Gene were in fact outsiders who garnered a passionate following of intelligent and sensitive believers. They disbanded in 2004, having accumulated 10 Top Forty hits and over a million record sales. 

Part of the Welsh diaspora, Martin was dragged up on the melodies of Charles Wesley and the gritty glamour of Shirley Bassey. This heritage suffuses Martin’s debut, an album of tender meditations on life. Unapologetically recorded on piano and voice the record is bleak and sweet in equal measure and shares the sonic palette explored by Paul Buchanon on Mid Air or Carole King on You've Got a Friend. Fans of Martin’s previous work will hear the characteristic traits of his art – honesty, melancholy, unexpected humour and a lyrical incisiveness that elevates him above other songwriters. Lead single ‘Drop Anchor’ is a metaphor piece that implores a lover to settle down, ‘Three Points On A Compass' a knife in the heart of inadequate fathers and ‘I Must Be Jesus’, a camp, music hall anthem for depressed pre-teens.
