As a DJ, Austin found his footing in the nebulous space between groovy, psychedelic, bass, & techno. Never quite satisfied, he continually reinvents, explores new styles, and finds those connections between generations of dance music. 

After the pandemic, Austin took a one-off party he did called Routine and turned it into a monthly event. In 2023, Austin moved Routine to Substation, a larger, but underused venue for underground dance music. Since then, Routine has become one of Seattle's finest importers of national and international talent.

"Lately I've been inspired by folks like Jonny From Space, Polygonia, Tammo Hesselink and the newest Rhyw EP, "Mister Melt." I've been feeling a bit nostalgic lately, so I've been listening to a few Older Nicolas Jaar/Against All Odds records and Deftones. The best setting to listen to this mix is whenever your peak energy levels are or on a joy ride with the sound turned UP."

Founded in early 1998, the goal was to consistently put out records that would be loved and played by many in the house music community. Viva Recordings found success with its first debut from Johnny Fiasco and the with Rick Preston's Altruism EP, which gained notoriety when "Spring Fling" was featured on Mark Farina's San Francisco Sessions Vol.1. From these early releases the road was paved for Viva Recordings' success. Over the last few years we have been working on personal projects but now have decided to bring the label back and take the Viva name back.
