Poker Flat's Forward To The Past anthology returns in its 3rd iteration, as lean and mean as it ever was and precision-engineered to make you jack, dream and all things in between. The winning formula remains the same: task a selection of hotshot veteran and up-and-coming producers with recapturing the style and mood of early club music, paying homage to the golden years between 1985 and 1992 when Chicago House and Acid, New York House and Detroit Techno took the world and its dancefloors by storm. The result is a collection of new and exclusive tracks as addictive as the stone cold classics that influenced them - a tribute and, at the same time, the cutting edge of contemporary music production.

Quell casts clouds of vocals and a repeated snippet of soul over a sinuous, undulating bassline.

Anaxander gives us classic acid with Gallic attitude, fine-tuned for the dancefloor.

Hard-touring DJ and Back to Basics resident Denney goes back to the old school, plunging you into the midst of a heaving dancefloor with a wobbling, fluttering acid track.

Glasgow's Debukas provides another Detroit-influenced highlight, letting his imagination run riot with a heartstring-pulling chord progression and contrapuntal synth lines.

Denny's Leeds-based neighbour Bakers Dozen aka Simon Baker provides 'Reaching' - an upfront Chicago groove that provides a full spectrum assault on the senses with its reverberating vocal and lush, layered synths.

Harking back to the sound of squelchy synthesisers and click of drum machine pads, this track is here to show that acid house is very much still alive. And who better to play host to this, than the master DJ Fast Eddie himself!

Having previously had a long and deep history working in other genres, Solardo are unequivocally one of the most hotly tipped DJ/production duos currently refining their sound within the house and techno scene.

Released earlier this year on VIVa MUSiC as part of Detlef’s mix for the ‘VIVa Warriors Season 4’ compilation, Solardo’s track ‘It’s A New Jam’ received stalwart support from pretty much everyone in the scene in Ibiza over the Summer, an early indicator to us that these boys have a lot more to offer. Started in October 2006 by Steve Lawler, VIVa Music began life as a conduit for the internationally renowned DJ and Producer to release the wealth of underground music he encountered on his travels. Now, just a few years later VIVa is a self-contained hotbed for new talent which draws attention from DJs, punters and producers alike. Having previously handled the now-classic and traditional vinyl label Harlem Records, Lawler decided VIVa was to be a forward thinking outlet for quality music and boldly announced that VIVa was to be digital only. As well as a clear mission to look towards the future of the music industry, this was a step to ensure that music could be released quickly and retain the freshness that the labels A&R was struck by. Far from the template set out by many of Lawler's contemporaries, VIVa quickly established itself as a label where artists could be themselves and write music that isn't defined by just A&R, but by one simple guideline: Quality. This has meant the label has gone on to release music from a wide range artists, from major players like Lawler and Audiofly through to burgeoning talent like Livio & Roby and Nicole Moudaber. In keeping with an ever evolving outlook, 2009 will see VIVa further transformed. Worldwide tour nights, Festival Arena, International Residency's and a new UK based residency at the legendary Ministry of Sound in London are just the tip of the iceberg. Always ones to buck trends, the VIVa family are pressing vinyl again alongside it's digital output as well as expanding its roster of relatively unknown talent rather than rely on the tried and tested. At the forefront of this exclusive roster of talent are the likes of Vrajitoroo, David Pher, Dragosh, Adroid Cartel, Jimmy Hill, Alex Tepper, TRNNSTR, Darius Syrossian & NYRA, Erphun and Sean Miller but VIVa will continue to work with what it considers extended family for both releases as well as remixes; which means the likes of Jamie Jones, Audiofly, Simon Baker, Tiefschwarz, Bearweasel, David Durango and many, many more.
