I chose to do music because I am a musical person already, and it seemed like the perfect avenue to express myself on the topic of climate change.

I really enjoyed the process of creating this piece. First, I laid down swelling synth chords that sound like the crashing of waves. To me, it is a very calming sound but it also makes the viewer think “ocean” and “nature”. It’s not long, however, before some very fast paced and distorted drums come in. My intention with them was to represent humanity’s industrialization. Then, I made the piece get more and more chaotic and noisy with added synths. There are interjections of a shaking, stabbing bass note with added percussion on top. These, in my ears, are wars we fight with increasing frequency as climate change happens. Finally, everything falls apart in a worst-case-scenario of extinction.
