MAKE FRIENDS WITH GORILLA
Music by Overdrive and Stargoon

The song Make Friends With Gorilla is the result of a team effort and was composed in collaboration with the amazing band Stargoon. 

The initial idea was to produce the electro background for one of Stargoon's songs. It was then that the composer Shayne O'Neill introduced me to the demo of "Make Friends With Gorilla". The song was great and I spent a lot of time creating different electro versions, experimenting with beats and bass lines, but none of them sounded really interesting. I came to the inevitable conclusion that any change too abruptly would take away from the beauty of the original track, and perhaps the best solution was a remix. This way the original track could be released intact and still get a remix.

"Just do whatever you think works best," was Shayne's response. Man, you don't say that to someone who is desperate (lol). After that I completely abandoned the electronic versions and went for a mix of punk rock (!), anime music (!!) and orchestra (!!!)

This remix was by far one of the biggest challenges I've had to date, because it forced me to experiment with a crossover of styles outside the electro bubble.

Stargoon is the fantastic musical project created by the duo Shayne O'Neill and Ceridwyn "Sunny" Roberts-Floyd. The band has post-prog pop influences and was once defined as Hawkwind meets Devo. In my opinion, Stargoon's sound is completely original, a rare gem. I am an outspoken fan of the duo's work.

Ce titre, composé originalement en 1994 et réarrangé en 2024 pour Marie-Christine Tremblay, parle des états d'âme d'une femme qui vient d'être trompée et qui est triste et fâchée. Le rythme soutenue démontre une force de caractère de la femme face à cette trahison. La pièce est interprétée par le duo MCDC (Marie-Christine et moi-même) avec l'aide de quelques musiciens chevronnés. This title, originally composed in 1994 and rearranged in 2024 for Marie-Christine Tremblay, is about the moods of a woman who has just been cheated on and is sad and angry. The sustained rhythm demonstrates a strong character of the woman in the face of this betrayal. The piece is performed by the MCDC duo (Marie-Christine and myself) with the help of some experienced musicians. Marlène Claveau on alto sax, Michel Otis on tenor sax and clavinet, André Lessard on trumpet, Martin Tremblay on trombone. I’m on programming, bass, guitar and back vocal.
