The Word: What Is Repressed Will Have Its Revenge

Annika & I have a wonderful conversation that begins with the topic of television, and specifically new entries for 2014. We begin debating Lindsay Lohan's new show on OWN and somehow that leads us to a discussion of art. What is art? Are Reality Shows art? Annika says it's all "bullshit", but (of course) I argue for a more forgiving view.

The Word: Is "Lindsay" Art?

This is part one of our special Series On Apartheid. As the leaders of the various anti-Apartheid movements pass away, we take the time to look back at one of the most interesting and unusual periods in Human History. 

In part one, we trace the origins of the Apartheid system back 1400's HRE, when Roman legal concepts entered the Low Countries. We then continue through the colonization of the Cape Colony by Dutch, French, and finally British forces. I discuss the various independent Boer republics, and how these efforts were extinguished by the most powerful empire in the world. 

Finally, I explore how the repression of the Boer people could have laid the groundwork for the Apartheid racial ideology that would emerge more than 40 years after the last Afrikaaner state was conquered.

In this compilation that celebrates the first year of public affairs programme "The Word," I revisit the guests, stories, and conversations that have defined 2013 and 2014.

In 2013, I took the leap and decided to initiate a project that I thought about for quite a few years. I took a passion for information, a life's mission to educate, and a well-developed ideology to give birth to "The Word". I hope that every person who has come into contact with this conversation has loved, and most of all, learned from it.

If it's not reaching, it's not teaching, and I thank the Universe that I still am able to continue these projects.

The second year of "The Word" begins with an author interview. Joining me is Rajee Narinesingh, the author of "Beyond Face Value," released in the wake of her world-wide fame. 

In addition to discussing why she decided to write the book when she did, we discuss her darkest moments, and how she is able to muster the will to survive, despite violence, hate, and prejudice. 

"Beyond Face Value" is one of the best memoirs I have ever read, and certainly one of the most enjoyable books I have read this year! Rajee shares several fun anecdotes from her life, as well as reviewing events that occur in the book.

The year 2014 was a watershed year for the Word. I got to interview celebrities, produce video segments, & even though there was alot of chaos, I still managed to eke out a few episodes. I talked about various interesting subjects. It was a crazy year-- from Ukraine being split asunder as a nation to the continuuing civil war in Syria, & several celebrities died. 

I had panelists sometimes show up, & others times not. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope to do more episodes in 2015 than I did in 2014, but I did also compile some of the best segments from The Word in 2014 into this compilation: Not only from the episode "What Is Repressed Will Have Its Revenge," but also "Is 'Lindsay' Art" about Lindsay Lohan's Reality Show (Which I know you all watched),

Friend & scholar of religion Saffiya joins me to discuss some of the most recent events in the expansion of the Islamic State Caliphate. In control of Mosul since June 2014, Daesh has now commenced an assault on the buildings, artefacts, sculpture, public property, & texts of the city. 

The Mosul Museum, a complex which used to house several thousand year-old artefacts has become a "hub of the millitants." The ISIL filmed itself destroying statues, hitting them with hammers & even jackhammers. They then published the video on the internet, and threw the scattered remnants of the allegedly priceless materials onto the streets of Mosul.

But there may be more to this story. Latest information from Russia Today, PressTV, Euronews, Channel 4, The Young Turks, Democracy Now!, & Public Broadcasting System precedes our discussion for background information. 

This is a comprehensive look at this issue, & should be of assistance in understanding the on-going conflict, 'cultural cleansing,' the mission of Daesh, & what they may do in the future.

Romance-Adventure author CK Brooke once again gives me the pleasure of interviewing her, coinciding this time with the release of her 2nd official publication: "The Duchess Inheritance"! The main characters from the last book are all here, continuuing their quest to restore the Ancien Régime of Jordinia. 

We discuss several features of the new book, which includes topography, new locations, new characters (including one I am absolutely enthralled with), language, religious systems, psychological motivations and other wonderful features of this exciting story. 

CK Brooke continuues to develop her career as she finishes the Jordinia duology.

Some parents just don't know how to behave. Whether it is one of the various forms of abuse, or just being plain hard to get along with, scores of parents behave in inappropriate ways. This conduct can irrevocably harm kids & adult children. On The Word, we listen to Eliora & Dahlia share their stories of out of control parents. Eliora's dad is a drunk, Dahlia's was pretty much never there. Then, Saffiya stops by to say all that she has to about her parents and how they affected her. Finally, I read quotes from some of my favourite texts that address this very issue, including Alice Miller & classic "The Primal Scream" by Arthur Janov.

The Word: Out Of Control Parents

PressTV's Caleb Maupin joins me on The Word to discuss the renewed push for violent conflict between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

The jump-off point for our discussion is a segment on the FOX Business show "After The Bell," where several ideological statements were made regarding the Islamic Republic. One of the guests on the segment was from the influential Neo-Conservative thinktank The Institute For The Study Of War. 

Of course, as Mr. Maupin points out, the ISW is just "one of many," and there is a whole cottage industry devoted to this type of activity, serving to create the justification for war. 

Why does the American elite want war with Iran? And why now? Does it have anything to do with recent diplomatic maneuvers between the 2 countries? Mr. Maupin shares his insight on these topics, as well as others in this illuminating discussion.
