Kagami Shikō was a Japanese poet, considered one of the ten outstanding disciples (Shōmon jittetsu 蕉門十哲) of Matsuo Bashō. He was in turn the master of the famous poetess Fukuda Chiyo-ni.

Originally from the present-day Gifu Prefecture, Kagami Shikō became a monk at Daichi-ji Temple, and in 1690 he became a pupil of Bashō, later accompanying him on some of his journeys and recording his last will in 1694.

After Basho's death, he kept travelling around Japan, writing several essays on haiku and collections of writings until his death in 1731.

All Over The Place (naviarhaiku576)

Some months ago I was heading to the doctor’s when I heard a voice say “notice the tattoo,” or “ look at the tattoo,” something along those lines, which left me pretty baffled, unsure what this meant or why it suddenly popped into my head. But I made sure I would pay attention to any tattoos I saw at the doctor’s office. When I got there a young nurse admitted me and checked my vitals. She was pretty and had a calming grace about her. When she went to take my blood pressure, I saw on the inside of her wrist was a single tattoo: a red rose. Throughout the day I contemplated what this symbol was meant to mean and why I was supposed to see it but couldn’t really make any connection to it. 
Around this time I had started learning more about the saints. I was reading a book of poetry by St. Thérèse of Lisieux “the Little Flower” that I really loved. In it are the most tender of love poems dedicated to Jesus, other saints and her fellow sisters at her convent. 
But it wasn’t until a couple of days ago I found the novena prayer to St. Thérèse and was shocked and tickled to discover it is apparently common knowledge that she’ll send a rose to those who ask for her prayers. 
Now I can’t remember if I had, at that time, asked, but maybe she went ahead and sent the rose knowing I would catch up down the line. Either way, this beautiful haiku by El Wud evoked in me this memory and the desire to repay her kind gift.

So dear St. Thérèse of Lisieux, this one’s dedicated to you:

Lose Your Mind And Come To Your Senses 
This ties in with recent daily meditation practice. Breathing and this pattern of inhale exhale is conducive to meditative states and so forms the basis of this track. along with the pulse pattern I added synthesizer and shortwave, all processed and manipulated to be breathlike and further a deeper state of no mind. good luck on your end. as with most of my output it tends to get pretty dark

When we engage in the 5.5-second breath, several physiological responses occur. Deep breathing triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels. The slow exhale activates the vagus nerve, which further promotes relaxation and soothes the body's stress response.

Slow breathing goes by another name: prayer. 
When Buddhist monks chant their most popular mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum, each spoken phrase lasts six seconds, with six seconds to inhale before the chant starts again. The traditional chant of Om, the “sacred sound of the universe” used in Jainism and other traditions, takes six seconds to sing, with a pause of about six seconds to inhale. 
The sa ta na ma chant, one of the best‑known techniques in Kundalini yoga, also takes six seconds to vocalize, followed by six seconds to inhale. Then there were the ancient Hindu hand and tongue poses called mudras. A technique called khechari, intended to help boost physical and spiritual health and overcome disease, involves placing the tongue above the soft palate so that it’s pointed toward the nasal cavity. The deep, slow breaths taken during this khechari each take six seconds. Japanese, African, Hawaiian, Native American, Buddhist, Taoist, Christian—these cultures and religions all had somehow developed the same prayer techniques, requiring the same breathing patterns. And they all likely benefited from the same calming effect. 
In 2001, researchers at the University of Pavia in Italy gathered two dozen subjects, covered them with sensors to measure blood flow, heart rate, and nervous system feedback, then had them recite a Buddhist mantra as well as the original Latin version of the rosary, the Catholic prayer cycle of the Ave Maria, which is repeated half by a priest and half by the congregation. They were stunned to find the average number of breaths for each cycle was “almost exactly” identical, just a bit quicker than the pace of the Hindu, Taoist, and Native American prayers:
5.5 breaths a minute.
