I know I shouldn’t fool myself
But I’m waiting for a miracle to come 

So cold in this frozen land	
And if I’ll be without you, I might fall 

I’m calling up to heaven above 
Hello, where are you my friend? 

I’m sending out a message of love  
But I know, I have lost the best I had 
The best I ever had 

Somehow you slipped out of my hand
But I will hold them tight, our memories of gold 

You’re close, yet so far away 
But my world cant be the same, not as before 

I’m calling from the edge of the world

I’m calling from the top of my lungs

Had this one on the back burner for quite a while (ruminating in insecurity and a thousand endings) until my wife heard it the other night on staycation weekend in our mix. Her telling me i was a fool for not sharing it with the world and how it made her feel was the catalyst to finish it, so here it is! :)

A wandering poet and ascetic Zen priest, Santōka was a disciple of Ogiwara Seisensui, one of the first poets to discard the traditional use of the 5-7-5 structure in haiku.

Santōka’s poetry emphasizes the necessity of sabi (solitude) in order to achieve spiritual enlightenment and serenity.
