HARRY AND CARLA or: The Long-Anticipated Complication

Henry William Kaller from Birmingham and Carla Victoria Hary from Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham, were married on June 24, 1973, in Birmingham. At first, there was nothing unusual about the planned wedding. The two were in love and wanted to build a life together.

From early youth, Henry Kaller had always been called "Harry" by his friends and mates. And Carla had always simply been "Carla" in her circle. Everything was perfectly in order.

The long-anticipated complication arose at the moment when Carla Victoria, during the ceremony conducted by registrar Frederic Lower, insisted on combining both family names into a double surname: "Kaller-Hary."

The registrar hesitantly pointed out that this double name sounded suspiciously like a dry, thorny South African savannah—or even a hot, arid desert.

Nevertheless, Ms. Hary stood firm in her decision, and her fiancé Harry complied with his future wife's wishes. From that day forward, the groom was officially Henry William Kaller-Hary, and his wife became Carla Victoria Kaller-Hary.

From then on, Henry - “the Harry,” or “the Kaller Harry,” now known as Harry Kaller-Hary - was referred to among friends as “the Kaller-Hary Harry.” Carla, meanwhile, became “Kaller-Hary’s Carla.” Together, they were “Harry and Carla Kaller-Hary.” In Carla’s circle, he was “Carla’s Harry,” while in Harry’s group, she was “Harry’s Carla Hary,” or “Harry Kaller’s Carla,” or even “Kaller’s Harry Hary’s Carla.”

Henry Kaller-Hary - “Kaller’s Harry from Birmingham,” aka “Carla’s Harry” - loved his Carla deeply, his “Kaller-Hary’s Carla,” aka “Harry’s Carla,” the very Carla Kaller-Hary née Hary from Sutton Coldfield. And they still love each other today just as much as they did on day one.

All of this is authentic, verified, and true. Only one detail was slightly off: the registrar’s name wasn’t Frederic - and this is absolutely not a pun - it was Carl. He was known as “Lower’s Carl,” the one and only Carl Lower.
