They are AshRock and Jimi the Genius. Together they form Hydraulix out of Miami, FL and they’re this week’s special guests on The Armory Podcast. Press play. Get down.  

Straight from Miami, Florida (the undisputed home of the 808 kick drum) comes Hydraulix. The of the most talked about and exciting Electro-Bass group to hit the Electro scene. Utilizing futuristic beats with an emphasis on dirty ass bass, their tracks are set to destroy dance floors worldwide.

Richard Ash-Rock Zarate and Jaime JimiTheGenius Merlo have been dropping bass in their DJ sets for years (most notably as resident DJs for world renowned Culture Productions), all the while drawing from their childhood influences (2 Live Crew, Debonaire Records, Cut It Up Def Records, MC A.D.E, and Maggatron to name a few) to create a unique, dance floor friendly hybrid of Electro and Bass. Ash-Rock and JimiTheGenius then set their sights on conquering the world of production. Once they were comfortable with the knowledge that they had acquired from Merlyn a Breakbeat ambassador and Xerodefx . They quickly began banging out some of the sickest floor bombs on their co-owned label with Merlyn, which is Kuad Recordings. For Hydraulix, these to young stars have a bright future from the city of boom where they reside.

For this record I first went out to New York to record with some of the daptone records guys to get the main groove Of the tune. Then I had to travel out to Van Nyus to record a children's choir, which was the most nerve racking thing I have done in my entire life! Having a group of 7-11 year olds sing your song is quite the feeling. I then finished up the song with Mike Avery in Chicago. He was one super soulful dude and really captured the golden era funk vibes that I love so much. Overall, this is a song that is a total funk dance party. Enjoy with friends, preferably in a room full of disco balls :)

sometime back in 1999 we hit the big time at glastonbury , fatboy slim , chemicals , underworld ,and err swayzak .....11am start jezuz  but still played in front of several thousand frothing lunatics ! later in the day we saw orbital , i said ooh i like that vocal sample on "halcyon" , turns out to be friend of friend aka kirsty hawkshaw and so the best track we ever wrote began ! 
this is carl finlow's sublime remix of the original which still tugs my heart strings .
my biggest regret is we never made a video or played on top of the pops with this tune ! On sale at our bandcamp site from tomorrow £1 a go

KILLEKILL is proud to present a live recording of an excellent live set of CARL FINLOW to you, recorded at the KILLEKILL ELECTRIX event on 07. October 2011.
To many CARL FINLOW will need no introduction with over almost two decades of pioneering work in electronic music under his belt. With a talent for creating sounds that are ahead of their time and a scarily robot-like ability to communicate with electronic equipment, Carl has created an extensive catalogue of work at the cutting edge of electronic music. And if you don’t believe us just ask the likes of Radiohead, Herbert, Richie Hawtin, Luke Slater, Francois Kevorkian or Andrew Weatherall, they’ll tell you. 
Maybe it is the fact that some of CARL’s major influences are classic artists that he sets his standards so high, citing experimental godfathers Pierre Schaeffer, Varese and Raymond Scott  as his primary sources of inspiration. Or equally it could be artists a little further up the time-line such as Tomita, The White Noise, Yello, Prince, Thomas Dolby and of course Depeche Mode who have helped to set the bar way up high. 
An early interest in making his own music, fostered by his Dad who bought him a Moog at the age of 13, an early mastering of his Sinclair Spectrum computer and a brief stint as keyboard player for John Peel favourites, The Bridewell Taxis, all contributed to bringing Carl to the point where he is today. Perhaps a pivotal moment was the appearance on stage in a full wet suit daubed with florescent paint with the Bridewells, who knows…. it was certainly hot! 
As original visionary and fellow farm-dweller with Ralph Lawson in Leeds’ Rhubarb Triangle throughout the 90s, Carl forged a production partnership with Lawson that took them onto the international stage, remixing Blaze, Fatboy Slim, Jamiroquai, Swag, Swayzak, Josh Wink and Luke Slater. It was during these days of self-confinement in the Farmhouse (making only vital trips across the rhubarb fields to find food) that Random Factor was born and under this guise Carl began recording exclusively for 2020. But not content with one pseudonym, he is the master of disguise, also recording as Silicon Scally, Voice Stealer, IL-EK-TRO, Circle City, Scarletron and more conventionally CARL A FINLOW to give an outlet to the various sides of his musical palette.
Never quite leaving his roots in playing live behind (apart from the wet suit), Carl has developed a superb live set using Ableton Live (indeed, even demonstrating the software at various UK Universities to music students) to take his sounds on the road as Random Factor or Silicon Scally. He has played Japan, USA, Russia, Australia and Europe extensively.

You can ear in the recording the vocoder feedback and some technical problems (in the stage it didnt note it, that is live) but was one of my best live experience ever with the PAMPLONA CRU!!! <3 in the end of the live set i call to Dj Rata from Korrupter Brothers to make some scratches , it was inprovisation and was amazing!! big thanx to Dj Rata, Chuki, Zuri,Abuelo,Maitane,Jorge and all the Pamplona crew!!

Eat your heart out Raymond Chandler, you would have loved Silicon Scally as a backdrop sound wave to one of your novels.  With a long history in the music world and one of the primary founders of the famous UK label 20/20 vision under his real name Carl Finlow , comes this second installment of full on electro. Not to be missed by Electro headsz, with Finlow again determining his own paticular sytle that he owns outright.

One of the most consistent producers of British electronic music, Silicon Scall's aka Carl Finlow returns here with a defiant counterpoint to the lowest common denominator perception of electro today, with ten slices of decidedly edgy, underground syncopation. Clearly relishing the chance to let rip, 'Bioroid' features little of the disco twitching accessibility associated with some of his other work; this one's for the heads, with distorted scrapes and razor-sharp beats placed very much at the fore. Thats not to say it lacks sphistication, however.  Finlow's greatest skill lies in his ability to match crystal clear, complex tones with an instinctively rocking vibe, and while the album's occasional abrasiveness might prove a bit much for those with more melodious taste, there's no denying that the bowel-churning frequencies and deftly formed glitchy touches are leaps and bounds ahead of most pasty purist efforts. Simultaneously hyperactive and grounded, it throws a satisfying two fingered salute to those who take the name of 'real' electro in vain. 
Carl Finlow is apparently completely incapable of releasing a shitty album , although he's shed a bit of his brooding, corrosive Scallyness this time around in favor of kicking the crap out of the dancefloor. Finlows tracks, like "Population lll" and "Encapsulate," are too robo-funktastic to be denied full of good solid mechanical breaks. While the spacey-ness of the album doesn't drift as far into the subconscious as Dark Matter or Mr. Machine, cuts like "Moment" and "Interflection" carve a psychoactive electro niche that is uniquely Finlow.

Heart - Barracuda (Virgin Magnetic Material Remix)

Volsoc is an American electronica project, consisting of Justin Maxwell and Jean-Paul Bondy. The project formed after a series of collaborative live performances in the Southern California rave scene in 1999-2000. Combining their individual monikers, Stupid Octave Cat ("soc") and Volum, the two first recorded under this name for the 2001 Abduction Productions compilation, "SCR.COMP.002". They were originally approached for further releases for Exzakt's Monotone USA label, but released their first 12" on Germany's World Electric. This debut vinyl release earned them immediate international recognition in the Electro and Breakbeat communities, and the title tracks, the slightly electroclash "Compuphonic Intelligence" and minimal "Shout Out" became two of the most popular electro tracks of 2002-2003. This EP, as well as their subsequent one on breakbeat producer Si Begg's label Noodles Institute of Technology, serves as an archetypical release for the nu skool electro genre.

Volsoc ceased further songwriting in 2003 upon Bondy's departure for Berlin and Maxwell's relocation to San Francisco.
