Hailing from Brusque, Brazil, Ricardo Hingst (known artistically as HNGT) is quickly becoming one of the country’s most exciting prospects. Raising his profile as a DJ and producer with performances at D EDGE, Elfortin, Terraza and Surreal, and releases on the likes of Createch and now Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint, HNGT is well on his way to being one of Brazil’s leading electronic names.

HNGT’s debut on VOLTA is an impressive three-tracker showcasing a depth in musicality with a firm grasp on modern techno flavours. Beginning with the title track, ‘Rebel’ dives straight into hard-hitting rhythms and rippling resonance. Firm drums and driving hat grooves pave the way for an onslaught of ethereal- laced melodies embraced by a soulful female vocal hook, blending in and out of atmospheric breakdowns to carve out a stunning opening track.

‘Artificial Awareness’ comes next, bringing racy ominous vibes from the outset. Another impressive display of synth-led techno is on display here, building around gritty electronic textures, glitchy fills and a robotic vox to deliver a darkened peak-time stomper.

‘Future World’ closes the release with a moody interplanetary persona, highlighting more of HNGT’s boundless creativity and writing skills. A constant ebb and flow of climatic builds and potent drops with progressively expansive soundscapes and futuristic nuances throughout to round off a profound debut.

Lisbon's VOLTA maintain consistency with 3 more servings of deftly expressive Techno courtesy of Brazilian producer HNGT working alongside collaborators Tao Andra and Lutgens.
Working alone - HNGT kicks us off with 'Voices In My Mind'. A stiff kick is the track's ballast, occupying a dimly lit underbelly alongside sparse zaps of bass and a pulsing Prog-bassline. The low end pins down a tension that remains tightly coiled throughout while smokey textures and melodies form spectral hues overhead. The track then opens out across a beautifully cinematic breakdown as an airy vocoder glistens into focus before 'Dark Sun' follows up with some intricate psychedelia. Here, HNGT works alongside Romanian talent Tao Andra who dashes in some of her vivacious flair and together the duo set serpentine melodies curling and flexing over another rugged low end. Delicate FX use casts trippy signals to the far corners of the stereo spectrum before 'Nebulous Unity' sees the return of Lutgens to VOLTA as together - the duo finish the EP off with a hard-edged DJ tool. Jagged signals and cold but nimble bass frequencies as the key ingredients here; together they work in tandem to dial in a rolling boil perfectly suited to peak time floors.

UMEK’s label 1605 welcomes a quartet of fresh techno talent on a four track mixed artist EP featuring individual cuts from Heerhorst, Julien Earle, Lazar (IT) and The Reactivitz.

Lazar (IT) has been a feature of imprints such as Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave along with Sam Paganini’s JAM, and he opens this release with his track “Face To Face”. Blending pounding percussion with grinding bass and hints of euphoria, his track is an explosive start that sets the scene for what’s to follow.

The Reactivitz is one of France’s most exciting young talents, and already he has featured full throttle techno tracks on labels that range from Carl Cox’s Intec to Metodi Hristov’s Set About. With thrashing hi-hats and ominous atmosphere, “Parallel Universe” has compelling vocals adding to the building suspense that leads into the tranquillity of the breakdown, before unleashing hell with a bass drop of epic proportion.

Julien Earle is fresh on the scene with a small number of releases under his belt, but already he is making waves with Ramon Tapia signing him to Say What? and Spartaque featuring him on IAMT. “Galactus” has a dystopian feel with its cosmic lead synth combined with sci-fi influenced atmospheric layers over a foundation of hard-hitting percussion perfect for causing maximum impact on the dance floor.

Heerhorst is a regular collaborator with Teenage Mutants, and his solo track on this EP is in the same style he has featured on Monika Kruse’s Terminal M and Sian’s Octopus. Closing the release in style, his track “Passages” blends uplifting melodies with a sadistic tone to create a contrast of dark and light that’s expertly tailored for a club sound system and peak time DJ sets.

It’s no news that Victor Ruiz have been producing authentic music from day one. With a need to incorporate that sound more and more, VOLTA was created.

“I’ve always felt that my music was somewhat different and most times hard to place on a certain label. I saw many other artists feeling the same. There was a gap. That’s when I knew it was time for me to create VOLTA.”
Victor wants to create a new platform that not just releases music but also connects artists and human beings.

A percentage of the profits of the label goes to charities and causes chosen by all the artists that are involved.

“I want to bring consciousness to our scene that we should not just make and play music. There’s so much more beyond that. Helping people should be one of the main focuses in our lives. That’s why we are artists, to connect and to help.”
