VOLTA is a new label from Victor Ruiz and he brings the first release “Pura Vida”, that is a statement of the music palette the Brazilian Techno head is capable of. Victor of course has put his music out on some of the worlds biggest labels like Drumcode, Terminal M, Factory93, Balance Music and more, and with the start of his own label, be prepared to see his studio prowess further still. 

The opening track ‘What’s That Called?’ sets the tone of the EP. An energetic vocal lead helps to form an emotional and bombastic anthem. With nasty stabs and 3D sound design, this track brings all the elements Ruiz has to show.

‘Veritas’ shows another side of him as an artist. Introvert, hypnotic and profound. A loopy synth line takes you on a journey throughout the whole song until a cinematic / out of this world sound comes into play. 

The title track ‘Pura Vida’ closes the ensemble with pure majesty. A song meant to bring joy and happiness every time it’s played. With beautiful melodies, heavenly vocals and a powerful drive that explodes any dance floor on the way.

This first release proves that VOLTA is a record label to keep an eye on in the future.

Tomas Otero's 'Can't Stop' EP is the third release from the young but well formed Volta label from Victor Ruiz. It features two originals and two remixes from Drunken Kong and Alex Stein.

The EP opens up with 'Can't Stop' which brings up dark serrated synths looping over the face of the tune as powerful techno beats drive below. Celestial keys bring some eeriness to this tense and tough cut.

Drunken Kong’s Remix of the main track then has a shuffling, all consuming techno groove with vast swathes of bass and pulsing synths. It shows why the Japanese dynamic duo have been on all top Techno DJ’s playlists.

'High Voltage' brings a more serene and spaced out feel thanks to the sustained chords that hang in the air above the rock solid kicks and an LFO led hook that makes this a B-side as solid as the A-track.

Closing the EP with majesty, Alex Stein brings a remix with some techno funk, lush loopy melodic patterns, high end sound design and more rolling drums. It’s peak-time anthem that rocks all dancefloors.

Techno legend Christian Smith is back with his first EP at VOLTA. He takes care of the fifth EP with his usual compelling style. The Tronic label head needs little introduction as a mainstay of the underground for the past 20 years. There is little he hasn't done and now he shows he still has fresh sounds up his sleeve each time. One Giant Consciousness is an all consuming cut with rumbling kick drums and earth shattering bass. The hi hats are razor sharp and cosmic vocals add extra intergalactic energy. Dreamer then brings on a deeper sound with sustained chords hypnotising your mind. The majestic melodic patterns then begin to fall from the stars as you gaze on in wonder and march to the beat. This is a powerful offering from Smith.

Victor Ruiz's label VOLTA serves up a fantastic EP, this time with Balthazar & JackRock behind the three original tunes. This DJ and producer duo have made a real impact with their tunes on the likes of Drumcode, Terminal M, Plus 8 and Filth on Acid and do so again here.

Solar Deity opens up with grading bass and the sort of raw techno drums that make a whole warehouse march. There is real tension in the synths and a vocal brings the soul. Princess of the Sun is another hard edge banger with synths that sound as if they have been fired from a machine gun. They light up the sky and will get hands in the air. Last of all is Vibrant, another powerful track, this time with loopy and heady synths that will boggle the brain as the glitchy percussion rides on. An epic breakdown features cosmic keys raining down from above before the drop blows the roof off.

This is another superb EP from all.

Launched in the tail-end of 2022 - Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint is already making strides in the techno space through a relentless stream of impactful releases from a mixture of some of the genre’s biggest names and most promising talents. The latest release on the label sees Hamburg-based duo ANDATA deliver a blistering two-tracker titled ‘Play Hard’.

Kicking off the release, the title cut ‘Play Hard’ does what it says on the packaging. Thumping drum work and hissing percussive drive steer the track forwards amongst a sea of progressively climactic melodic components, and atmospheric breaks whilst a catchy spoken vocal hook keeps you reeling alongside its ever-intensifying acidity from start to finish - this one was built for the absolute peak of the party.

‘Pleasant Experience’ rounds off the release with more weighty rhythms, swapping ferocity for a more groove-focused cadence. Gritty harmonies and swinging momentum float the track alongside a gripping bassline melody and endless layers of melodic accents that flow on either side of several crescendo style breaks, delivering an addictive ebb and flow of firmly danceable techno with celestial nuances.

Romanian artist Tao Anra synthesises her hyperactive but sensitive personality into her music, playing from high energy to dark and groovy Techno. Her musical journey began in The Netherlands during her university years, following up with releases on 7Rituals, Kuukou Records and Kaligo Records. Tao now brings her ever-maturing Techno production to Victor Ruiz’s increasingly popular VOLTA imprint, with Ruiz himself joining Andra for a standout remix on ‘Gracias a la Vida’.

Kicking off with the title cut, ‘Gracias a la Vida’ dives straight into a flurry of racy grooves and blistering electronic musicality. Oozing with a blend of psy-inspired techno flavours from the outset - its fast-paced drums and driven hat sequences pave the way for an expanding platform of rifling bass notes and gritty synth leads that keep the energy at an explicit premium throughout. It would be criminal not to mention the captivating vocal topline that rears its head beautifully at the track’s most atmospheric intersections, making it a truly unique piece of music, capable of turning heads and capturing hearts on any dancefloor globally.

Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint is fast becoming one of techno’s most prominent stables, thanks to a slew of releases from the label frontman himself and offerings from some of the most established names and exciting prospects in the genre.
The latest VOLTA outing features Ruiz alongside renowned Berlin techno stalwart Alex Stein. With a very close friendship that spans over 15 years, they have spent countless hours in the studio together and released a selection of successful releases between 2009 and 2013, but this new EP will mark the first collaboration for over a decade. To mark the 10-year hiatus, they decided to come back with a bang, and chose to make tracks which resonate with their older sound as well as bringing their new sounds to the mix, as a way to pay tribute to some of their first work together. It is definitely a very special comeback.

Alex and Victor’s ‘Human Robot’ EP encapsulates a three-track techno powerhouse - a trio of futuristic-inspired grittiness laced with ominous flows, sinister melodies and haunting vocals. The title cut ‘Human Robot’ kicks things off with a roughened electronic palette, capturing your intrigue with driving grooves, sweeping samples and intense glitchiness. The track’s racy journey pulls you through a kaleidoscope of riveting features with urgency, simulating an edge-of-the-galaxy-type pursuit vibe from start to finish.

‘The Heed’ comes next, bringing more weight and intent. Hard-hitting drums and shuffling hat grooves steer you forward alongside a ripping saw-synth lead, bass stabs and rising serene vocal layers to the point of atmospheric climax before elegantly reeling you into the second half of the voyage via a monstrously large throwdown featuring a more beefed-up version of that savage synth.

The release ends on ‘Darkplace’ featuring a gripping vocal topline from Born I, taking a more stripped-back approach to its predecessors. Much as the title would suggest, the track is pleasantly moody from the outset, building on thudding kicks and bellowing sub-bass notes as it rises from the depths via a series of intensifying layers of harmony that intertwine to create a broad sense of climax - arriving just in time to deliver another heavily danceable dose of raw driving techno goodness. Inspired by their older sounds, “Darkplace” is an ode to the past with a positive message for the future and what’s to come.

Remaining at the forefront of a genre is no small feat, yet Victor Ruiz and his VOLTA imprint remain synonymous with cutting-edge underground techno on a global scale. The latest release on VOLTA welcomes back budding Australian talent Lisa May, as she delivers another hugely impressive offering for the archives with her ‘Switch’ EP. First stepping out on VOLTA in 2022, Lisa May is back with another refreshing release, spanning three unique dancefloor cuts.
The title cut ‘Switch’ kicks things off with hammering kicks, crisp percussive drive and a pulsating musical arrangement. Subtly bringing in that ethereal sound the label is known for, it’s a track with an immersive journey filled with retro soundscapes and a cinematic feel - loaded with danceable segments from start to finish.

‘Pong Ping’ comes next, delivering more gritty grooves and roughened rhythms. Built around a rippling low-end of tonal percs, bass and synth notes, and sequential FX stabs, its perpetual rumble will keep you on your toes with ease.
‘Radio Signal’ brings the release to a close. Rolling beats and blistering percussive drive create a robust core, orbited by creatively constructed layers of synths, samples and climactic FX, spurring several enjoyable crescendos to create a toughened ebb and flow.

Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint heads into 2024 in the same vein as it ended 2023, with an unrelenting flow of top-quality releases, the next from Wehbba and label boss, Victor Ruiz. After their infamous b2b at Warehouse Project in December 2022, it was maybe a sign of things to come, and after not collaborating for almost 10 years, the duo found time in Sao Paulo, resulting in their next release ‘Stand’.
The title cut ‘Stand’ was made during lockdown, “It felt fast at the time, but then techno had a surge in faster bpm’s being played and released, so when I came back to the track 4 years later, it almost feels slow” says Wehbba. “I sent the track to Victor, and he added some drums and vocals that were perfect, but it wasn't until we played it out, that we realised what was missing”. Laced with enveloping acid and modulating analogue elements from early on, its ebb and flow of gripping peaks and troughs filled with expansive soundscapes, hooking vocals and riveting crescendos are the perfect precursors to its several gritty, sawing synth lead. “Now we are both in Lisbon, we got into the studio again and worked out the finer details and completed the track” adds Wehbba.
‘Silo’ completes the release with an appropriate amount of ‘boom’ throughout. Thumping kicks and subtle percussive drive lead the way along hollowed-out sub-bass and melancholic arps that expand further into the mix, giving rise to sharply rising synth lines and pulsating bass stabs. A progressively climbing roller with endless energy and loads of off-beat shuffle throughout, it perfectly caps off an impressive release.

Liquid Soul's 'Crazy People' has become one of most iconic psychedelic trance tracks. After meeting each other at Boom Festival in Portugal, Victor Ruiz asked Nicola Capobianco (aka Liquid Soul) to remix this iconic track.

Once the remix was done, Victor sent it back to Nico that really loved it and they both decided to release it on Ruiz’s own imprint VOLTA. VOLTA’s regular HNGT is back, this time with a power collaboration with German rising talent Techmo. After meeting online, and showing mutual admiration and respect, both producers decided to join forces and the result was the instant banger “Dream Machine”.

Being supported by big names such as Enrico Sangiuliano, Sama’ Abdulhadi, Wehbba and Victor Ruiz himself, this tune made so much fuzz at Time Warp, Awakenings, Tomorrowland and so many other epic festivals and venues.

It’s no news that Victor Ruiz have been producing authentic music from day one. With a need to incorporate that sound more and more, VOLTA was created.

“I’ve always felt that my music was somewhat different and most times hard to place on a certain label. I saw many other artists feeling the same. There was a gap. That’s when I knew it was time for me to create VOLTA.”
Victor wants to create a new platform that not just releases music but also connects artists and human beings.

A percentage of the profits of the label goes to charities and causes chosen by all the artists that are involved.

“I want to bring consciousness to our scene that we should not just make and play music. There’s so much more beyond that. Helping people should be one of the main focuses in our lives. That’s why we are artists, to connect and to help.”
