SOLIDARITY with UNIST’OT’EN is a fundraiser compilation of electronic artists in the occupied Indigenous territory that constitute the island of Tiohtià:ke (Montreal, Canada) who stand in support of the Wet’suwet’en Nation in their fight against Coastal GasLink’s campaing to build a pipeline through unceded traditional territory.

The intent is both to raise funds and awareness to the ongoing situation in the Wet’suwet’en Nation and Unist'ot'en Camp. 100% of proceeds raised from the compilation will go to the Unist’ot’en Legal Fund.

meandyou is one of the most familiar club-night and label names in Manchester. It's ran in some capacity for over 10 years now with its five residents; Herron, Joy Orbison, Juniper, Taber and our next Truancy Volume contributor Lyster, putting together some of the city's most fabled parties and releasing consistently great quality music. While part of a collective, Andrew Lyster stands as a singular figure within the greater electronic music community. His broad selections mean that pinning a certain sound to him is practically impossible. That idiosyncrasy has made him a cult favourite with Manchester clubber's discerning ears and feet. We extremely pleased to include him in the series and we also sat down for a chat with him over a pint or two.

An artist of moderate success yet monumental influence, Weldon Irvine was a pioneer of jazz-funk fusion and Nina Simone's band leader. A major contributor to the 1970s Black Arts Movement, Irvine who wrote over 500 songs and over 50 theatre plays, was also integral to the evolution of hip hop, from its inception through its golden era of consciousness and heavy jazz-laden sampling, as we'll hear from Mos Def and Q-Tip.

Tribute To Weldon Irvine by Jaba Shavishvili [15.07.2020]

It’s been over a year since his last EP, but finally, it is with mixed feelings that the Brainwaves crew have decided to release Thomas Bodenständig’s sophomore album, Speed Am Rhein. 

Sometime in May of 2020, as the first wave had already wreaked havoc throughout western Europe, our friend Thomas got in touch with us once again, sending us a box of 66 cassettes in mismatched dusty cases along with an enigmatic letter from his home in North Rhine Westfalia. We do not feel comfortable with disclosing the entire contents of the letter, but we can say that it shook us to the core to find out that our dear friend Thomas had been suffering from covid19 with complications for a number of weeks already, and that it seemed to be affecting his already degenerate mind. 

As he has always done in difficult times, Thomas turned to his twin passions of filterless cigarettes and industrial electronic music during this tough period, and so by the time he got in touch with us in mid-May, he had already recorded an album complete with remixes from two carefully selected french producers, Warzou and Christian Coiffure. Each one of the 66 cassettes we received was hand-numbered and individually recorded by Mr. Bodenständig himself, and his slightly worrying instructions were that we were to release the album if we did not hear from him in the coming months. 

2020 has been a complicated year for everyone, and the crew’s natural immunity to the viral agents that only affect carbon-based lifeforms gave us a certain amount of confidence, so we were devastated when we found out that our closest Leverkusen-based affiliate Mr. Bodenständig was affected by the virus. Since May, all five of us have been doing all that is in our power in order to get in touch with Thomas, as he seems to have completely disappeared. His apartment is vacant, with no trace of him, his favourite barstool in Leverkusen’s dirtiest Kneipe is gathering dust, and his cellar seems to have been emptied of all his synthesisers and recording equipment. We have sent our notorious alien friend Brian to comb the streets of Leverkusen, we have been looking behind every barstool in every sleazy bar in the region, we’ve even checked all Leverkusen hospital and morgue records in order to find some trace of his name, but to no avail. 

It has been a long search and we do not plan on giving up, but we have finally decided that it is time to follow the great man’s instructions, and so today, after six months with no news from him, it is with a mixed emotional bouquet of sadness, pride and nostalgia that we release Speed Am Rhein and put the 66 cassettes on sale.

Thomas Bodenständig - Hochgeschwindigkeitshandel (Christian Coiffure Remix)

Paralaxe Editions is based in Barcelona, and Ylia (a.k.a. Susana Hernández) has long been one of the city's most well-regarded musicians. A classically trained pianist who came of age DJing breakbeat raves in Andalucia, she easily maneuvers between disparate scenes and styles; she's as comfortable dropping electro and techno records as she is performing alongside experimental flamenco artist Niño de Elche (she's a member of his touring band).


Following her appearances on labels such as Lapsus and Hivern Discs, Dulce Rendición is Ylia's first full-length effort, a cinematic collection of meditative and richly melodic tracks that largely grew out of her intimate live sets. Weaving together analog synths, field recordings and fragments of her own voice, much of the music was directly inspired by her dreams—and more specifically, the seemingly impossible sights and sounds that populated them. Working to recreate their lingering silhouettes in the light of day, Ylia oscillated between moments of deep introspection and playful fantasy as she settled into the hazy space between sleep and consciousness.
